<p>Years ago, I settled on Chicago and Barnard as my top two choices, and began working on both applications. I needed a huge amount of aid- poor white East coast kid. After studying the information on both schools, I realized that Chicago had more money available, and at that time promised to meet the aid need of anyone admitted. So I applied, attended, and graduated. However...today I do feel that Barnard would have been better for me. Like you mentioned- the support, the location, the social environment. I may well have landed a job and settled down in New York City, since I am an east coast person. My only ties with Chicago today are emailing a few classmates and friends. I would have been able to take most of my science and math classes at Columbia- that was a big attraction. So, although Chicago has a better academic reputation, I think that you should weigh the other factors. Best of luck.</p>

<p>Well, I chose Barnard.. and it was a pretty easy choice in the end (despite the "dark 10 days" when I was having my dilemma).
But I mean.. after I decided on Barnard, I have NEVER looked back.
I don't regret not choosing Chicago in the SLIGHTEST bit.
It's just not the place for me.
And I NEED to live my dream in NYC.. Chicago is just too windy and too dull for me.
And like you said OneMom... I have to go for the overall experience and "weigh the other factors".</p>
