My status changed to "Send 7th Semester Transcript." I assume I was deferred??? I don't think they call it deferred because they are rolling. My school's semester doesn't end until the end of January. I guess I'm screwed!!!!

It’s official…I got an email saying I was deferred.

oh, darn! Sorry to hear that…but you never know :)

No biggie. LMU is like my 4th choice anyways.

:(

What other schools are you applying to?

NYU-- ED
USC
Emerson
Chapman

are my main ones (film if you couldnt guess) then some other state schools that I don’t want to go to. If I get into NYU, then this LMU deferral doesnt even matter.

Same thing happened to me, but my status still says “currently under review” and I haven’t received anything official about it yet.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/1042714-lmu-7th-semester-grades-am-i-deferred.html

Sadly, LMU is my top choice so not getting in would be pretty devastating. Let me know what happens with you, I wish you luck with all your apps!

I hope I don’t get deferred/denied altogether, LMU is my 2nd choice ._.

@stemar–my process was:
1:45pm–under review mypaw status
3:00pm–7th semester transcripts

So I called them, they said I was deffered, 2 hrs later, I got an email.

I was deferred too :(

I’m getting nervous!

nyuhopeful, mind posting your stats?

I was deferred today - 3.8 W/2210, national merit semifinalist
Im not quite sure what my unweighted was but ive taken 11 APs and mostly honors through HS
Good recs, essays and ECs
LMU was supposed to be a safety for me according to my counselor so i really dont know where i stand right now
Im really worried

MA

were you catholic? LMU is a jesuit school. Also are you from California? or Massachusetts as the MA in your username might be referring to?

Yes I am Catholic, and I went to Catholic school in 9th grade. I’m from Texas, not MA haha.

@ lucybravener Sure:)

Please don’t be shocked at how low they are though; most of my talent lays in my ECs.

Overall Average: 85.56 % (we don’t do GPAs at my school, weird I know.)
ACT: 26
SAT: 1700 but I did not submit my SATs into any of my schools since they all required the SAT or ACT
ECs: I spent summers studying with two of the best ballet academies in the world, at one of my programs there was only less than 100 dancers who were accepted after thousands from around the world auditioned for the program. (This was my hook!!!) I have 100+ hours of community service, work with my church and confirmation group (yes, I am Catholic), 27+ hours a week of dance, summer job at nationally known company, year-round job at same company, and I also am the secretary and treasurer of my yearbook.

In my opinion, my essays were beautiful. I wrote about finding compassion within myself when I was exposed to a community that was less affluent than the one that I had grown up in. I also wrote about my uncle who is a Vietnam war hero and a Purple Heart for the essay that was specific to LMU.

I think that my letters of rec. were good; I had my math tutor write one for me since math is my MAJOR downfall (I am VERY artistic lol) and I also had my AP English teacher write me a letter.

So yah, I was probably deferred because of my low average, but hopefully my other talents will compensate when final decisions are made.

Good Luck!! :)

I don’t believe that you were deferred with those stats, which are WAY above LMU medians. Did you apply from juve or something?

No, I applied for the College of Communication and Fine Arts. What about being admitted after I send in my 7th semester transcript? What is your opinion? Thanks! :)

Kelly, idk if you were asking me but no, I have no criminal record lol. I guess I’ll share a bit about my app just in case anyone wanted to get some info on deferred students? The only thing I can think of that would have caused me to be deferred was the fact that I had math anxiety for freshman/soph years so I got a C in math twice… other than that I really don’t know, I know people who weren’t deferred who have lower stats so I am kind of upset. LMU wasn’t a top choice, but since it was a safety I can only assume its a negative sign of what’s to come from my reach/match schools.

I am very good friends with my counselor and I got pretty good recs, I founded several clubs, have around 200 hours of service, held two internships, I’m a professional actress for 10+ hours a week and I created my own digital/graphic design website if you want some of my resume highlights. I’m an AP Scholar/NMSF and I teach Sunday School at my Catholic Church…

I had my AP English teacher/college advisor/counselor/dad read over my essays, and they all said they were great. At this point, I really don’t know… I haven’t gotten a letter/email confirming the deferral, but the 7th semester thing appeared on mypaw so I assume thats the case.

Oh and I applied for Comm. Studies

MA2011: Yes, I was referring to you with my incredulity. For LMU to defer a National Merit Scholar (when they only get a couple a year to apply) means that their computer screwed up OR:

They knew you were unlikely to accept them (your stats are just way out their range), and so why impoverish their yield numbers with someone likley only to turn them down if accepted?

So, they deferred you to preserve yield. They figure if you really want to go or if you are rejected everywhere else and come back and tell them that LMU is now your choice and you will commit to them, then you will tell then and, of course, be admitted in a heartbeat.

I think they knew they were way down the list of your safety schools and didn’t want to feed the increasing acceptance wall you might be accumulating.
