I had a few questions about the application process

Feel free to answer any or all.

  1. I’ve seen several people post their optional essays about favorite books/movies/etc. as bulleted lists- is this standard?
  2. On the Common App they say to upload a 1 to 2 page essay. Are these MLA format essays (double spaced, size 12 TNR, etc.)? Because mine are about 600 words which seems to be standard.

I think that’s it… thanks!

My son wrote an essay on his favourite movie and discussed about his thoughts on education. The essay helped to show who he is.

My kid did her favorite things essay in paragraph form, one paragraph on a favorite book and one on an artist she likes. She got accepted EA 2 years ago. Doesn’t mean bullets won’t work, but she crafted those paragraphs pretty carefully, trying to communicate the essence of why she loved those things.

I just checked her UChicago prompt essay. She single spaced with a blank line between paragraphs. 655 words, not including the prompt, which she put at the top of the first page in italics. It was in Cambria 12, not sure why. Just don’t use Comic Sans.

Thanks guys! I’ll consolidate my bullets into a proper essay then.
