I had senioritis my freshman year-OH JESUSLORDHELPPP!!

Hi~
I'm currently a sophomore in high school with rising ambitions.
I had senioritis my freshman year and screwed up my GPA. ( 94!!) I don't have many clubs-perhaps 5-6. I have one sport. I'm taking 3 AP's next year- chem, us history and eng. comp. I attend a quasi-competitive school. You know what, scratch that...my school is pretty darn competitive. My GPA this year rose 3 points. Yep. I was a savage up until this year...meaning, I didn't exactly know what school WAS until..uh.. ..THIS YEAR. I apparently realize my mistakes and I can't help but feel regretful. But that's okay.

JHU is my reach. Columbia/cornell are also reaches. Seemingly, I must first make myself stand out. I would sincerely appreciate it if anyone would fulfill any of the following:

~First, if possible, please provide your GPA and very, very brief stats(courses you're taking, clubs, blahblah)
~Please leave a description of your study/work habits.
HOW MANY HOURS DO YOU STUDY A DAY!! A description of your daily routine is better ( so I can figure out what the HELL is wrong with mine!)
~HOW MANY BOOKS DO YOU READ A MONTH> ON YOUR OWN.
~Please leave advice on how to improve work efficiency.
~Please leave advice on how to become involved in the research program. (I'm a good science student. 100 for the past three quarters. Honestly, i'm good but not excellent.)
~ Advice on sleep.
~Advice on anything elseeeee!!!! PLEASE I'M SO DESPERATE!!!!

What's more, I'm ASIAN. LIKE, CHINESEEEEeee!! I don't exactly fit into that asians-are-so-smart-stereotype. Which at times, really hurts.
Please feel for me.
btw, I'm sorry for being so demanding and making my request so lengthy.
MUCHO LOVE FOR KIND PEOPLE OUT THERE<33

mangos: 94 is not THAT bad of a GPA... my school goes on a 4 point scale; I had a 3.99unweighted, 4.03 weighted; i got 2 A- in AP classes junior year and slacked off junior year... the year that we're all suppose to work our as-s off.... hmm... i had to work sooo hard senior year to make up for it.

haha... im sorry, i cant help but laugh a little.. your personality is just so funny: in a GOOD way.

hmmm ill be breif right now but maybe elaborate later:

1) 3.99/4.03 GPA
2) 8 AP classes total, 12 tests total, took 4 on my own without the class
3) sophmore year: first hour homework at home... then 2nd hour in first hour, 3rd hour in 2nd hour, 4th hour in 3rd hour... etc... sleep in 6th hour, go home and do 1st hour homework
junior year: did homework randomly at places like work for example
senior: go home, sleep for 1-2 hours, get up, eat dinner, study until 2am... IMPORTANT: go home and study as quickly as you can get yourself to... don't procrastinate, then you can watch tv at 8 or something
4) i used to read 3 books/week in 6th grade, then i was in canada and it was "geeky" to do so, and all the asian people weren't that "asiansaresosmart" either, so i stopped reading... NOW... like 1 per month is reeally good already. but i try to find good books to read, like not useless romance novels
5) work effiency: carnot engine.. haha j/k.... hmm.... don't study if your brain isnt absorbing anything, then you're just wasting time. try to focus better... control your diet or something like dont eat too much greasy food, salty food, caffine.... they make you not as focused
6) sleep is really important: sleep at 10-11... so if you're a sophmore...

i suggest:
after you get home from school/sports/clubs.. do your homework, then talk to your friends for a little, then watch tv and eat dinner, then read a book for 30 minutes, then sleep

efficiency: when you're waiting in school during practise, you can also do homework. i used to do my math homework the 30 minutes before cheerleading sophmore year. of course, its kinda hard to do that with hard classes that really need concentration, but some other "busy work" class is really good for that. just basically, put school work in priority and do them first, don't procrastinate, and its not like it takes forever, so you can hang out, go to the mall... afterwards. think of it as rewarding yourself after hardwork.

ur a girl huh? (syntax) no offense if ur a dude

Yes I'm A Girl Girlgirlgirlg Girl Powerr

~First, if possible, please provide your GPA and very, very brief stats: freshman-junior=4.4 soph-junir 4.85
~Please leave a description of your study/work habits.
mine is school, hang out with friend until 6 then start homework. dat was fresh-soph. then junior is studying when i get home unti midnight. senior year so far is watching tv, beach, and slacking off real bad.
~HOW MANY BOOKS DO YOU READ A MONTH> used to read 4 a month
~Please leave advice on how to improve work efficiency. sit down, do it.
~Please leave advice on how to become involved in the research program. better have sum persuasive abilities. I once tried to research for a bio research thingy, 120 people were trying for the lat spot
~ Advice on sleep. just sleep
~Advice on anything elseeeee!!!! - chill out. freshman isn't much of a admission factor

omg you are pathetic

(mods don't ban me)

you need to chill out. believe me...

after reading the title of this thread, one would think that your freshman gpa was a 2.0 or something, but no, you have a 94% average which is often still considered a 4.0 on a scale out of 4.0. seriously, this kind of attitude really annoys me. OH NO! I got a 4.0!

just chill out.

hahah young_one..i dunt think 94 percent is a 4.0

first of all, telling me to chill out certainly doesn't help. which entirely defeats the purpose of this thread. BASED ON WHAT I've SEEN on CC, it's fair to consider a 94 = BAD. Obviously, tiger and young_one did not read my post. How many people do you see getting into JHU and COLUMBIA with 5 little clubs and a 94-97 GPA with no academic distinctions??? HELLO I'M ASKING FOR YOUR HELP. CC is a place for pathetic losers like me to beg for help.

I don't think your problem is with your GPA (although feel free to continue to brainwash yourself into thinking that a 94 is bad, it may encourage you to work harder). I think your problem is that you lack initiative out of school. You said it yourself: "How many people do you see getting into JHU and COLUMBIA with 5 little clubs..." Well, maybe now is the time to find something and stick to it. 94-97 GPA is completely fine, BREATHE. However, I think you need to find something you like, and explore your out of school options with it.

Does that 94 include 10th grade too?

-4.0uw-96.97 average
-11 ap's and 8 honors
-I dont study that much like (1-2 hours)
-Sat II's: World History:800, Chemistry:800, APUSH: 740
-A lot of community service hours, president of clubs, and what not.
-I read like a book a year
-Sleep a lot

(just as a side note, even if it's not, it's called laziness, not senioritis Freshman year)

actually REX, a 94 could be considered a 4.0 because....

at most schools, a 94 or better is considered an A, and an A = 4.0. Obviously, it is not at the high range of 4.0s but obviously it's still respectable.

Nonetheless, even if one doesn't consider a 94 a 4.0, a 94 is great and definitely people have gotten into prestigious colleges with this gpa.

i'm also a sophomore but my ambitions are going the other way. It makes me feel happy to see you full of nervous sad optimistic energy riiiiiising up!

First, if possible, please provide your GPA and very, very brief stats(courses you're taking, clubs, blahblah)
3.43 GPA, two APs and the rest honors - 2 AP classes next year and self-study for two AP tests (both Latins), one club, no sports or anything else.

~Please leave a description of your study/work habits.
i go home and slack off for ~6 hours, start my homework at 10 PM, don't finish it, etc.

~HOW MANY BOOKS DO YOU READ A MONTH> ON YOUR OWN.
one or two

~Please leave advice on how to improve work efficiency.
junk your computer

~ Advice on sleep.
it's really important.

~Advice on anything elseeeee!!!! PLEASE I'M SO DESPERATE!!!!
harness your enthusiasm, harness your energy~~ Obviously you are already doing this...balance is so important but maybe at this point, if you chill out (which you need to do), you will poop out totally. Definitely don't close yourself off to outside opinions or influences.

ANYWAYS!!!! YOU WANT SOME ADVICE. START STUDYING NOW. FORGET YOUR DAM FRESHMAN YEAR AND MOVE ON. GEEZ, FOLLOW WHAT YOU LIKE. IF YOU LIKE TO DEBATE, JOIN DEBATE CLUB AND ENTER DEBATE COMPETITIONS. IF YOU LIKE MATH, ENTER MATH COMPETIITONS AND JOIN THE CLUBS. FOLLOW WHAT YOU LIKE.

*overall, my advice:
1)you are soph. and you got plenty of time to raise your GPA
2)freshman GPA is good so don't worry about it going against you. In freshman year i had a 3.7 weighted and still got into pretty good schools.
3)don't try to bs colleges by going to clubs you don't like and doing things for college. like, don't join the science club when your passion is history
4)show upward trend
5) take as many AP's. at least 6+
6)take couple community college courses.
7)relax and try to make high school enjoyable while you study hard. like, after you study, try to meet some friends and go to the movies or get some sleep.

Hahahaha, a 94 isn't screwing up. Isn't that a 4.0? You're freaking out over nothing. Five to six clubs is a lot, especially if you actually care about them.

Anyway, I'll fill out your survey because I'm supposed to be doing history. :)

3.9/4.0 & 4.6/5.0 or so; French Club, JCL, FBLA, marching band... about it. IB diploma candidate, also taking AP exams.

I get home at 4. I dick around until 6ish, when I start my homework. I usually do homework and procrastinate by singing/dancing/going online/eating until around 10:30. Tonight's an exception as I have a couple hours' work and it's 11, but oh well.

I don't study unless I have an important test coming up. I study by rereading the textbook; sometimes I do practice problems for math if I'm really paranoid. I just don't study much.

To work efficiently: be in a quiet area with no distractions: no phone, music, computer, food, TV, &c. Maybe a library. I personally am horrible with this. As you might be able to tell.

Sleep is the for weak. Try to get eight hours. It's more than possible if you don't procrasinate.

But seriously, don't worry. You sound psychopathic.

~First, if possible, please provide your GPA and very, very brief stats(courses you're taking, clubs, blahblah)
around 4.0uw/4.4w

~Please leave a description of your study/work habits.
Do homework. Talk online. Go to sleep. Very little of this "studying" you speak of. My high school is hard though--one of the top public schools in CA.

HOW MANY HOURS DO YOU STUDY A DAY!! A description of your daily routine is better ( so I can figure out what the HELL is wrong with mine!)
Big test? 3-4 hours. No test? Um...15 minutes + whatever time it takes to finish my homework. I stopped really studying after last November. Luckily my grades still reflect as though I study a lot.

0. In a year? Oh, around 3?

~Please leave advice on how to improve work efficiency.
BS the homework you know the teacher won't check. That'll give you some time to finish the other homework that actually gets graded.

~Please leave advice on how to become involved in the research program. (I'm a good science student. 100 for the past three quarters. Honestly, i'm good but not excellent.)
Stop worrying. You're a sophomore. You have a long way to go.

~ Advice on sleep.
Sleep is for the weak. I go to bed at 2am even though I can at 10pm every night.

~Advice on anything elseeeee!!!! PLEASE I'M SO DESPERATE!!!!
You're a sophomore. Stop worrying. Have fun in high school. My grades dropped slightly since freshman year, but I think it's well-deserved, even though it's junior year. I'm having so much more fun and I enjoy everything I do, as opposed to freshman year when I just joined clubs for the heck of it or because my friends were in it. Take classes you want to take and I guarantee it will be so much more enjoyable. I'm on the school newspaper and I can't tell you how great it is--when I go to college, I'll definitely write for the paper, and if I end up changing majors, I'll major in journalism or communications. Relax. You're a sophomore. You have time to decide where to go. One other thing. You sound really desperate because you have a 94 average (praying to Jesus for help because you have an A/4.0 average? Please.). When you have maybe a 84 average, then you should sound desperate on this board. Many would love your grades and for JHU/Columbia, that may be all they need--just a 94 average. It's also annoying for people like me to read your post because your post is littered with !!!s and capitalization (which is the same as yelling in Internet protocol). To me, you sound as if you're crying over a 94. Please. JHU/Columbia/Cornell will look for more than your grades.

Just suck it up, you pussies.

"ow many people do you see getting into JHU and COLUMBIA with 5 little clubs and a 94-97 GPA with no academic distinctions???"

Three people at my school.... I am sorry but 94 is an excellent gpa at my school. Maybe it is becasue we do not weight so there is not a lot of grade inflation but at our school our valevictorian has a 97 so I guess in your school grade inflation is rampant. Either way I do not think a 94 is judged as senioritis... many of my friends this yea are getting 60's and 70's when they used to get 90's. That is senioritis.

Also as for APs they are not as big a deal as people here stress. It is important to take a tough curriculum based on what your school offers but beyond that colleges do not have a chacklist where they will be ****ed if you have less than x AP's. They just look at your school and what they offer vs. what you took. At my school I know someone who got into harvard with a whopping 4 APs in their entire high school careeer....

And as for 5-6 clubs being too few dont be rediculous. You are clearly doing clubs just to look good for college, and colleges will see that. Instead of trying to sign up at every club that has the most prestigous sounding name, try and find one or two clubs that you really care about. Then devote your time to those few activities that you actually WANT to do. Colleges will see the difference much of the time.

Finally you are a sophmore.. you have plenty of time. Though you should work hard academically my last advice for college is RELAX.

p.s. (also do not compare yourself with CC people, they are not the average applicant, and constantly looking at your scores/stats compared to some people here will just drive you insane)

yea..that is definitely true^. these CC people are actually the best in the nation
