I had to do it...BOB JONES UNIVERSITY??????

GUYS,

What is BOB JONES UNIVERSITY and why is looked at so downright awful and the I guess, “the last place you would ever go to college” Please tell me everything you know about this place.

thanks

From what I know, it's a very, very ultraconservative school in South Carolina that claims to be Christian yet is full of hypocrisy and rules that don't make sense.

Check out studentsreview.com for more info (I know that site isn't reliable for every college, but most people who review BJU actually seem to have something decent to say).

other inputs?

I think some of it has to do with policies they have / used to have. They ended their ban on interracial dating in 2000 (more than a little behind the times).

The school was thrust into the spotlight in 2000 when Bush gave a speech there (before the ban had been lifted) and took a lot of criticism for not speaking out against the ban.

Bob Jones isn't accredited either...so if you wanted to go and transfer, your credits wouldn't go. Al Franken on the subject, "they say its because they don't want to be...we think it's because they don't believe in science"

I believe it became accredited in 2003

you asked for it

Is Bob Jones University going to the Devil?

Could America's most famous bastion of hard-core Christian fundamentalism and pugnacious political conservatism be getting a little . . . soft? There are signs, portents.

In 2000, Bob Jones III, president of the university and grandson of the Founder, announced on "Larry King Live" that the school was ending its ban on interracial dating, long defended because "God has separated people for His own purpose."

In 2003, the school ended the practice of ringing the dorm bells at 6:55 a.m. to rouse students for daily room inspections.

Last year, the university applied for (and received) accreditation, a process it had always avoided because, as Bob Jones III once said, "accrediting associations will not approve our educational process if it does not include the worship of their gods."

And on Saturday, for the first time in its 78-year history, Bob Jones University will inaugurate a president not named Bob Jones.

sorry, I would not attend there personally

hey hey..from www.studentsreview.com:

In 2004 I was a freshman. I expressed my interest in voting for John Kerry for president in one of my classes. My professor and fellow students were appalled at me, as they each that "liberals" are in some way evil, and that any indication that you would vote Democrat would be frowned upon. As a result, I was chastized and abused by fellow students. I was demerited for practically anything on a daily basis and was not allowed to leave campus even on weekends-I felt like a prisoner and was seriously afraid. I was told by a professor that things may change if I would simply say that I would vote for president Bush. Finally, I could not take being a prisoner anymore and dropped out in late October. All I can say is that this was the worst academic/spiritual/psychological event in my life.

I want to forget I ever even heard about BJU and go on in my life to be a good Chrisian, something that this school does nothing of the sort.

...this is worse than like community college

Bob Jones students are like prisoners. They can't do anything. I know a girl who got expelled there because she went to a movie theater. Bob Jones is a school that is very legalistic and you should only go there if you don't prefer to have freedom.

No offense to anyone who supports BJU

ahaha bju...sry im immature yes yes i know

That is the worst, extremest conservative hardcore chrsitian institution on earth. Not only are its practices racially and ethnically discriminate, they are also gender bias, and have beliefs that represent the worst of humanity. They believe skin color, language, gender, and nationality all are "Gods vehicles of separating the best from the worst".

The education is horrible, and infact is so bias and controlled, that if you are not a fanatic conservative christian you simply wont fit in just like harvard2004 and kross_Addicted explain.

Even President Bush got heat from right winged republicans because of his move.

Its not a real institution, its just a christian version of an ultra discriminatory islamic fundamentalist breeding school. They brain wash and warp your convictions. The muslim men wanted to be patriotic, follow tradition, and be faithful to their religion. They got mind altered and look, we have thousands of suicide bombers down their killing everyone. The freshman who come to BJU want to be patriotic, follow tradition, and be faithful to their religion. Some end up becoming leaders of the KKK, and others aloof fanatics who will probably end up like the muslim fanatics.

Its not a real institution for higher learning period.

Why would anybody want to go to that kind of school? In some ways I guess Lenin was right when he said that "religion is the opium of the masses"...

i can't wait until bju is on facebook...

i bet you they block off cc.com to all students.
