I thank all you guys for your help and information. I made a post about transferring to an ivy league. I couldn't believe it when I got a call form Harvard, UPenn, and Brown. They all told me that they never read an essay where in every word there was so much emotions and passion. Basically the schools I won't have a problem getting in, I think the essay alone out weigh everything else (good and negative). They all said they commend the fact that I decided to return to school after a four-year hiatus. The only flipside to this is that it would benefit me better to come in as a freshman. I mean thats great in all but how ridiculous would I look being 23 year-old freshmen! I would like anybody's advice on which school I should go to. My major is Anthropology.

I know that Penn has a totally different campus from the other two. Its in downtown Phillie, of course. Visit the schools if you can. If they are that interested, they might buy you a plane ticket. Also, you haven't seen the financial aid packages yet.

warblesrules: For transfers, they don't care that much about the SAT. Also, understand that the 3.8 is a college gpa and they are usually alot lower than high school gpa's.

thats so awesome, congrats!!!
My cousin got into Dartmouth with a 1300 on the SATS and a 3.9ish GPA. Her essays were amazing, so both of you guys have proven how important the essays really are!

dufus- I wasn't referring to the fact that it's "low" (which it isn't). I was referring to the fact that the SAT is graded on a 10 point scale; you can't get a 1435.

". I mean thats great in all but how ridiculous would I look being 23 year-old freshmen! "

When I went to Harvard in the 70s, the oldest person in my class was a person who entered at about age 30 and she also was married and had 2 preschoolers. Since she lived in Boston anyway, she commuted.

She didn't seem "ridiculous." She seemed interesting. She apparently did very well at Harvard, and went to law school afterward.

You probably won't seem "ridiculous" as a 23-year-old freshmen, but probably will seem more mature in a good way than most freshmen are. My guess is that you'll also have a lot to offer in class and in extracurricular activities.

Best of luck to you as you make your decision about where to go!

If you're willing to show your essay, PM it to me, too, please. I'd love to see it.

Yeah, you definitely won't look ridiculous. I just got a student teacher who just finished college after she raised her children..shes almost 40, so 23 is definitely acceptable.
