A778999...Prove it....Well its sitting right infront of your face. Take this thread you have everyone from white, black, asian, hispanic etc alll offering there own diverse opinion. Everyone is intergrating their cultural belifs into this one topic. I think if there were just asians and whites in this thread there would be much to debate and the same if it was just blacks and hispanics. In a matter of days this thread has over a 150 posts. This is diversity at its finest.

So this is a good thing? I presented some facts that supported my argument and people called me cocky and accused me of racism. Some posts have really offended me.

Top tier gives you an edge, but it's not the be all and end all of college

But it's not equality. I understand there will never be equality in the educational system, but a college shouldn't be choosing candidates on race. Even better would be choosing people based on need and on merit.

Then you shouldn't start a thread called "I hate affirmative action." It's a little thing called "tact." It's real nice, I picked it up at Target, you should check it out. Seriously, did you think you weren't going to get a rise out of anyone when you said something so controversial?

Jman, that's almost exactly what I said about context. You are just looking for someone to fight right now.

No one is saying that your points arent valid , and i dont belive it was anyones intention to offend you. I am just hoping you can be a little open minded and see the situation from a different light.
And why of course it is good, it allows us to see every race every culture every individuals view. But this can only happen with diversity and thats what colleges want to see in the learning experience diverse opinons and belifs.

No, I'm merely expressing my views about AA and equality in college admissions.

When you voice an opinion, you run the risk of people disagreeing with you. When you voice an opinion on an emotionally charged issue, you can't expect everyone to be friendly and diplomatic in their response.

I thought because the best students in the world post in this forum, we would have a civilized discussion. I never thought I would get something like this:

You are sounding quite self-righteous, if I may. So you didn't get into the university. Maybe you should get off CC and focus on trying to get in somewhere else; don't start bashing people just because you didn't succeed. If your extreme cockiness was in any way shown through your application, that may be the reason why you didn't get in and the black student did. Take the racist bashing somewhere else, please!

Umm, hate to break it to you, but they're right, not you. So you didn't get in somewhere, that's not somebody else's fault, that's your own. You are incredibly arrogant, and people with your attitude are one of the reasons I dislike high school so strongly.

Well we all can understand your upset by his post but the way you presented your facts were no quite facts indeed. You just came to the assumption that he got in because he was black and not talented or qualified and i think that is where YOU offended others. You have no idea what went on behind the admissions door so you if fact cannot say you are certain that is why he got in and you didnt.
There are other ways of addressing your concerns about AA or possibly the reasons he got in and you didnt. But not through BASHING him as YOU did.

I didn't get in somewhere because of affirmative action so I decided to criticize it. That's just as normal as someone loving affirmative action because he benefited from it. How's that being arrogant?
I actually presented facts and logic (look at my previous posts), yet I got bombarded with baseless insults. Even if that's what you think, show some class and keep it to yourself.

What's more, it's not like he even got in ahead of you. You're complaining because he got a chance to interview for a full ride. How do you know that he didn't do some amazing volunteer work outside of school? How do you know his whole situation. These things aren't based solely on GPA and test scores.

show some class and keep it to yourself.

Listen to the pot calling the kettle black.

So I mentioned the fact that my SAT score is 250 points higher. How was that bashing? It was nothing compared to your merciless attacks.

If anyone of you against AA can prove that diversity hasnt contributed to this thread. Or having others present their ideas against yours didnt make your belifs stronger or weaker or even stayed the same then diversity has not done its job and inevitably AA doesnt serve a purpose.

Merciless attacks? You should consider writing scripts for soap operas. Such talent would be totally wasted on college. Grow up.

go back and reread my posts

Sorry, I don't speak bigot. It's just not my thing.

Calm down. There's no need to attack people on the internet...it won't do you any good. If his SAT score was 250 points higher, and the black student got in, then race had to play some factor. Inequality really makes me sick.

Umm "there's no need to attack people on the internet"... when you post something on the internet, other people can see it. You can't just pop off and say whatever fool thing pops into your head, and expect that nobody is going to pay attention we're just teaching a lesson here
