I hate being a pain, but I have NO approximation of my Chances (ED)

I know you guys aren't big fans of this type of thing, but I have no idea if I will get in or not. I'm applying Early Decision tonight, and I really, really, really want to have some sort of indication ...

I think I'm on the borderline, as far as acceptance goes.

I go to The Dwight School - sort of an "elite private school on Manhattan's upper west side"... please don't let that influence your view of me.

My stats:
GPA: 3.8
SAT: 2210
SAT IIs:
- Literature: 760
- World History: 770

ECs:
+ Student Leader of Assemblies (2005-2009) - I run technical equipment for school assemblies that happen every other Friday. The entire school depends on this technology to work, I keep it on track.
+ Jazz Band (2005-2009) - Performed in Weill Recital Hall (smaller hall underneath Carnegie Hall) every single year in January.
+ Grease (Musical) (2007)
+ Spent 56 Days In India, tutoring street kids in institutions in Dongri, South Mumbai with an organization named "The Family".
+ Was in the finals of the Doris Post Speech Competition in both 9th and 10th grade.
+ Had regionwide recognition from the National Vocabulary Championship.
+ JV Soccer Team (Grade 9, Grade 10)

I also went to the Advanced Creative Writing High School Program at Columbia and got a really good letter of recommendation - and letters of rec from the Heads of the English and History departments, my English and History teachers respectively.

nothing's guaranteed but you do look like a competitive applicant, beyond that no one can accurately tell you what your chances are. just submit the best application you can put together and hope for the best.

I don't know how much it will count for, but I'm doing the entire International Baccalaureate and all my classes are IB classes, three higher level...

I'd agree with your assessment. Not a 'likely', but not completely unlikely either. Give it your best shot.

pecoae are you sending in your rec from the Columbia summer high school program as a supplement? i'm wondering whether i should do that for my summer school. but i know that the adcom doesn't really like reading supplemental recs.

here nor there...who knows
did you do IB?

but i like you go to dwight...
i know a few people there (i used to be a nightingale-bamford girl myself)

I used to be your neighbor (I went to Columbia Prep until I moved to CT). I'm in the class of 2009 as well.

You definitely seem like a competitive applicant. However, your ECs seem to be lacking a little. Regardless, to your advantage, you're only allowed to list a few on the columbia application.

Your trip to India sounds interesting.

What are your SAT's for math and reading, and did you take ACT? Does your school rank, and if so, what are you?

Seems like the consensus is that you are lacking EC's. Other than that I would say you have OK chances.

Math: 660
Reading: 770

My school doesn't rank, but I'm in the top 10%, and I am doing the full IB Diploma.

The trip to India does sound cool. You look like a competitive applicant---question: do you have any other leadership positions?

Reading other people's chances is so depressing. I just feel my chances shrinkiinnnnggg.

I disagree that his ECs are lacking - he has a lengthy history of working with each of them (except Soccer), and has achieved something worthwhile in each (except Jazz and Soccer).

The real question is what impression his ECs give off. He doesn't look like a dilettante, but he looks like he is actively involved in a range of things. He's not a super-duperstar in anything (unless I'm misinterpreting the speech/vocabulary stuff), but does not present any obvious problems. An interview will say a lot as to whether he appears passionate in the stuff he does.

That's my analysis. I'm also not an admissions officer.
