I hate being an OOS-er

so its unlikely that I’ll be rejected because of my rank?
stupid rank is so irritating.

Alexandre, do people have better chances if they apply early response?

I really can’t believe the importance of the school in admissions. Most people coming into Michigan say the university looks for the top 10-20% of schools. From our school, anyone from the top 40% and above was nearly guaranteed at Michigan.

Strife, what school are you from?
Your stats don’t synch with the trend at all.
And yes, school rep does play a role.
And Elasticity, yes, people really have better chances applying early action. Note that it is NOT binding, like early decision is at other schools. It’s especially relevant for scholarships, but there have been very strong students, and one valedictorian from a good school that I know of, who applied late and were not admitted.

I’m from a public school an hour north of NYC. I think we’re a feeder, I think ~30 kids get in a year.
The average accepted GPA into Michigan from our school is a 3.6. This is slightly skewed up since many of the high GPA kids use Mich as a guaranteed safety. The average is really around a 3.5, which is ±.1 of everyone who is going to Michigan from my school this year.

A 3.5 for us is around the top 40% (the top 10% was a 3.93…)

My stats were a 3.5 and a 2300. But I’m an rarity as most kids don’t have that SAT score. Generally speaking the Michigan admits from my school are a 3.5 and around a 2100.

Generally speaking, anyone with >3.5 is told to apply to Michigan (as a safety!), and anyone with >3.7 is told to apply to Cornell b/c they’ll probably get in as well. Although the Cornell part didn’t work that well this year.

Lol yeah, I go to a feeder school as well. 42 students got accepted last year to U of M. We only have around 60 seniors total, and I have no idea how many actually applied to U of M.

Okay then, so you guys know the school makes a difference, and that you are the exception rather than the rule : )
One man/woman’s 3.5 can be another’s 4.0.
Hi ho.

So…
do you think 10/50 or even something lower (considering my luck…that could happen) would turn me into this safe/match you’re predicting…into a rejection when i apply early in the middle of september?

grade-wise A’s all across the board except for mandatory art/music classes, fyi.

Idk, being out of state I’d say you’re a match anyways, not a safe match.
