Ahaha. Let me tell you, it was a bch doing the apps and the financial aid. Moreso the financial aid.

But man, I had to because my SATs are good, my EC are great, but my GPA sucked (3.93/3.3). I was too iffy.

There is this one kid at my school who used to be my best friend. Now he just hates me for the fact that I'm competitive and self-motivated. He wants to go into the military, and when he asks what I want to do, I reply "medicine." He's like "that's a retarded job. Being a soldier is so much more noble than being a doctor."
Then, he completely resents the fact that I try to improve my test scores or take lots of ap classes. After getting a 2140 on my sat, I decided to retake, and by chance he was at the same test center. So before the test he gets ed off cus im retaking, so he makes a public scene of "why the * are u retaking, u have a 2140!"
Then he sees my schedule for senior year with all APs...He's like "why are you taking BC calc?"
I'm like " cus it's the hardest class and i wanna learn more and it'll be good for college."
He then proceeds to go tell everybody that I'm conceited and cocky for taking all AP classes and then manages to publish a hate blog about me.
And then he always says how he's smarter than me though he always does worse academically, and then he applies to 2 of the same schools as me declaring that he'll get in and i won't. When he doesn't get into one, he says how it's a "***ty school."
Then he tells the entire school about how all of the Indian kids are so cocky and they won't do well cus he says so.
$&%@ !!!!!!!!!! I can't stand people like that!!!!!!!!

Wow... he sounds like quite an ass. You know what'd be funny? If, 10 or 15 years from now, you become a doctor and he ends up seeing you to get treated.

yeah...that'd make my day...

I'm always hesitant to tell people my top choices because I worry what people will think of me if I don't get in. So I just say, "Oh, I'm thinking about going to an East Coast school." When they ask me to elaborate and I say, "Maybe Yale or Princeton," they think I'm crazy, since no one from my school has gone out of state in years (with the exception of a multitude of kids who go to BYU).

It would also make my day if I ever become a med. malpractice lawyer and happen to have FordGT as my client and that army obsessed (dirt poor BTW) friend is the petitioner (the person who's sueing).

Not happening. I don't think I can take the 3 years of Harvard Law School, or the 2 day NYS Bar exam. I'm still going to Wharton to get my MBA though...

It'll really make my day when I become an investment banker and make tons of money (in about 6 yrs, b-school in 8, back to ibanking in 10) and about 15 years from now when I build my dream house in Greenwich, CT (the second wealthiest town in America). And when I buy that summer house in Maui (or summer condo in Honolulu-I hate the property tax there...3.5%!!), and buy that BMW 7 series just so that someone else who wants it can't buy it.

With that said, my top choice is NYU Stern. I just tell people NYU. Most people don't ask. I don't tell most people.

haha...that'll be an interesting day

How do you have the intellectual longivity / patience to apply to 19 schools... What the...

Haha...when people ask me where I'm going to college(seriously, I don't know and don't want to know!) or where are you applying, I give vague answers like "Um...East coast." They pursue further, so I say "Um..schools in Boston and New York". Of course Harvard is included in that list of schools. Of course it's my dream. But it's a lot of pain when people say "YOU ARE NOT SMART ENOUGH!" or a lot of pressure when others assume that "you must be really smart!"

I've read too many of ihateCA's posts...all revolving the same theme. Ahem.

I still don't understand why people would be shocked when you say you want to do business. It seems that the only professions open are medicine, law, business. Since I don't want to become a doctor like my dad, and I don't want stomachaches in the law field, that leaves me business.

I'm exaggerating for effect.

I'm asian but I want to major in Film and television/Animation or art, so I never had that conversation.

I hate it when people on CC judge you on offhand comments and tell you that you can't do things when he/she:

a) doesn't know you
b) clearly isn't qualified to do so, and
c) clearly isn't CAPABLE of doing so, even if he/she was qualified.

The only professions open are medicine, law, and business? Thank goodness I must live in an alternate reality!

Yeah, I don't mention Yale or Cornell to people either...just UT, Duke, UNC...and Brown, since nobody down here's ever heard of Brown.

I just read this thread and can't believe it. Every single "group" goes through this. My c son is 12 and goes through this in sports. Try putting any kid in any situation that makes him different from most and it happens (for instance, the only c on the basketball team). Guess I am just old enough to understand this.
What surprises me is this. What cc lets someone apply to 19 schools. Ours really freaked at the kids that went past 6-8. Your cc must have lots of time or help if there was time to process the info for 19 schools for kids.

Asian stereotyping is kind of like Hispanic stereotyping..even if you are marginally smart, and you want to go to Princeton, people will laugh and point because they think that a Hispanic's only career choice is selling oranges by the freeway.

It's not fair. People are shallow and judgmental. Hopefully by college it'll get better, because everyone knows high school sucks. :)

Ugh. Same with my school. And the prevalency of college talk and stereotyping begins in FRESHMAN year -_-.

The thing is, people are so openly RACIST ABOUT IT!

I was invited to interview to be on the staff of a special newsletter at my school, and it was a group interview. So a group of candidates was interviewed by a panel of judges.

The guy i was sitting next to (white) was pretty arrogant. now one of the judges asked, "What is an issue at this school that matters to you?"
and everyone responded with drugs or alcohol or dating violence, etc etc..

but this guy had the NERVe to say"this might seem racist, but..." he took his hands and stretched out his eyelids and in an imitation of a chinese accent, said, "I wan to go to hahvahd! i wan to be a doctah!"
and talked about how that bugs him..

i and the rest of the applicants stared at him in SHOCK and the judges were obviously offended since some of the people in the room WERE asian...

UGH -_-.

Heh thats rather odd of him to do that in public in front of judges :/

I get a lot of flak from some friends and even some teachers who think I settled for less because I didn't apply to any Ivy League schools. That attitude really bothers me. They think that because you are a great students and have some good qualities that you should automatically apply and go to Ivies. It ****es me off to no end. I most definitely didn't settle. I made a choice for myself, not for anyone else.
