I’m almost finished with my spring semester of my sophomore year and I have found that I really don’t like my major. I’ve been a biology major, but while I still find the curriculum interesting. the labs stress me out to the point where I feel ill and I feel like I am not best suited for this degree. I want to work with people and help people as a career, most careers in bio focus on working in labs. but the problem is I have no idea what I want to switch my major to. And I don’t know if its to late; especially because I have to graduate on time because my sister goes into college as soon as I get out. I’m thinking of talking to my advisor, but I have no idea what to say. I’m so afraid of being a failure and not being able to have a bright future because of this. I want to make my parents proud and make them not regret all the money spent putting me through college. I’m beyond stressed out and any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
What is it that makes you ill? Disection? Chemical smells? Blood?
Stress and anxiety of doing something wrong
Maybe you should look into counseling before you make any big decisions?
Seems like that would be a worry no matter what major you do, because that’s unrelated to the work being done as far as I can tell.
I’ve just found that I really don’t like lab work anymore. And I think people in the science profession have to be really sure of themselves.
Well, just because you major in a science field doesn’t mean you have to work in science. Most science majors don’t.
But if the major stresses you out that much, you should consider changing. What are your other interests? Have you taken classes in other departments that you really liked?
