I HATE Plus/Minus grading

UT should at least offer an A+ (worth 4.33) to compensate for A- (like Columbia does, IIRC). Either that, or they should get rid of A- altogether because there's no compensation at the other end like with Bs, Cs etc. A 99 in a class is worth the same as an 94, while an 89 gets you more points than an 84.

/rant

Yes, I mad.

Just don’t get A-

Problem?

I think s/he means to say it’s just not fair. Agreed.

I agree! Either that or they should go back to the plain A/B/C system. :(

Agreed, I’ve had this discussion many times. If there is an A-, give us an A+

I would also like to add that its unfair that some professors use the system and others don’t. Either use the system universally or don’t use it at all.

no way AlAli4Real, I love when a professor doesn’t use it

The Calculus 408L classes just don’t use minuses. There sure is a lot of variance in the system.

It’s alright, you’ll come to terms with the A- once you realize that a 3.9 will serve you just as well as a 4.0.

I need to go to FAC more often. Don’t get ****t done at the apt. I’m ready for a fresh start, as always.

Athenos is absolutely right. I think anything above a 3.8 is solid GPA. And the bright side is that if you get a B+, then it doesn’t totally ruin your GPA.

How many A+'s have you been gypped out of so far?

2 in fact - A 97 in Economics and a 102 in physics. And I was gypped out of a regular A with a 93.8 in MIS 301.

I would have had an A+ in 3 of my 4 classes this semester…

Yeah, I think all professors should choose one or the other. I got an 88.67 in Statistics but my professor said she wasnt doing +/- so I got a pretty little 3.00 when it could have been a 3.33.

@msolo
I feel your pain, last semester I got a 89 in a class where the professor didnt do +/-.

So what does an A- count as? 3.6? or 3.8?

3.67 I believe

This stupid plus-minus system is complete B.S. If professors in the entire university are not mandated to use the system, its not an even playing field for all students. This big grading aspect of UT is what ****es students off , especially me.
