I HATE shaving

Hi there,
My skin is extremely sensitive so whenever I shave my face it hurts like hell and it hurts for all day long. For that reason i don't like shaving and i shave once a week but again i look like crap with beard on me. Since i don't like razor I got myself an electric shaving machine from norelco for 75$ assuming that it won't hurt as much to shave with it. Today i shaved with it for the first time and it hurts just as much as razor would. I took it to costumer service and they said that if i use it everyday for a couple of weeks my face will get used to it and then it won't hurt anymore. What do you guys think? Should i return my electric shaving machine? Any ideas? Tactics? Suggestions?

They do make 'sensitive skin' shaving creams that are designed for people who get severe razor burn, as well as stuff that you use before you shave with an electric razor. I'd look into picking up a product like that because either way - you're going to have to shave. It might help to know what kind of regular razor you're currently using - multiblade stuff like the mach 3 might actually aggravate your skin worse than one with less blades, or you might want to look into old style safety razors and real shaving lather. There's a lot of info out there, go get it.

Grow a beard.

Yes, I agree with McGizzle.

Grow it out so you can look like Grizzly Adams.

Be glad you aren't in ROTC

If you can afford it, try laser hair removal.

No that looks ridiculous. A man needs to have the five o clock shadow by the end of the day or he looks like a little boy.

Use Nair on your face? I don't know. Nair burns a bit, but that's about it.

I've never had good experiences with nair - it smells awful & there are always a few random hairs that survive. I can imagine putting it on your face would be worse because it's next to your nose.. plus you have sensitive skin so it would probably be bright red by the end.

I'd look into sensitive skin shaving products.. maybe it'll lessen the pain. I also don't know if you are shaving with or against the grain.. but try shaving with the grain - it won't get as close a shave so maybe it won't hurt your skin as bad.

The way you are shaving is wrong.

Id really recommend you find a shaving store, get yourself a single edge safety razor, They are just metal and look like this http://www.deathbike.net/snaps/general/01463.jpg.

Id also recommend you get yourself a good Badger Shaving brush, they will run you around $15-$400, though you don't need such an expensive one, the $15 one is fine. Just stay away from the Boar.

Then I recommend you get a tube of ProRaso Shaving lather/cream. This stuff is from Italy and is Amazing.

The problem with people today is that they don't enjoy their shave, everything has to be done quickly. Shaving is not something that should be rushed.

This is the way men used to shave and Its Amazing, you still see many older men shaving like this, They do it because its the Best. All of that shaving stuff you buy in CVS sucks, it dries your skin and smells like deodorant. It also irretetates your skin.

Any of you men who are interested in this, send me a PM and Il be glad top help ya choose what ya need. Il also show ya some videos on how to shave like this.

You wont regret it and it will be the best feeling you will ever have, and all of this while shaving.

You will never buy canned shaving cream again.

Return that Electric Razor, They suck.

The only way to get a best shave for me is to take one full hour and shave very slowly.

Otherwise, I get zits across my neck.

http://www.e-barbershop.com/

^ This web site has a lot of old school stuff for the fellows with shaving and all of that.

I had no idea that there were metrosexuals in the Bronx, like UB-Vinny77:)

Pff, just slap on some aftershave and take the pain.

There's some stuff called Tend Skin that works really well at taking away the pain from shaving and lessening razor burn. I'd look on Amazon and give it a shot.

Yeah I get zits on my neck too right after I shave. How can I prevent that? I use some oxy pads over it and some sensitive skin aftershave but it still happens.

If you have dark skin tones, curly or course beard you may have problems with PFB (pseudofolliculitis) where your beard starts to grow back into your skin before it's all the way out. This as a cosmetic skin condition (bumps and postules are the result) that is made worse by a super close shave. Skip the multiple blades.

I totally agree with you man!

Use this shaving cream, srsly, I was like you once.

www.kingofshaves.com - AlphaGel Mentholated. Oh yes!

My problem is my neck. It's thinner than tissue paper and cuts/gets red all the time.

If you have sensitive skin get a Norelco electric razor and shave wet and using Edge cream with aloe (for sensitive skin). This has worked well for me on my face but it does take 10-15 minutes for me to get an ideal shave (I also have sideburns to trim so it takes longer). I trim the sideburns using a Gillette Fusion.

Also, try to shave every two days instead of every day. This way your skin has time to heal. I never shave on back to back days and sometimes will go three if I know I have to be smooth for a certain day (i.e. if I'm going on a date on a Friday night I'll put off shaving until that afternoon).

As far as zits formed from shaving, I don't have that problem (if I get a zit it's not a result of shaving, it's most likely as a result of me placing my fingers against my chin or something for an extended period of time). But I do safeguard against them when I shave by washing before and after I shave (showers count as before). I use Cetaphil liquid soap which has some moisturizers in it so I'm not too dry.

people have been shaving for thousands of years. Not a single one liked the feeling of shaving. The ones who whined about it were burned at the stake.

Take your pick.
