I Hate Sports

What are some good colleges for a student that despises team sports? I couldn't care less about school spirit, either. Before you start rattling off LACs, note that I want the social life to be alright. I'm not a partier, but I want plenty of kids to have a chat with, go to the movies, out to a casual dinner, or mini golfing. Are there any schools like this?

Just because people like sports, it doesnt mean you shouldnt consider a school. Big deal if one Saturday a week is spent at a sporting event.

Besides, youll probably be too drunk on football Saturdays to even care what you are doing.

Emory, Wash U, Rice, Carnegie Mellon

UCSD = no football team and the other sports are pretty low key - plus excellent academics.

LACs are plenty social, I don’t why you would think otherwise! Esp. since by “social” you don’t mean “big frat scene,” which is the one thing many LACs lack. LACs like Wesleyan, Vassar, Oberlin, Grinnell, Bowdoin, Pomona (and many, many more!) all come to mind as schools where sports aren’t very important, and where there are nice social scenes with a mix of parting and the kind of stuff you’re talking about. For non LACs also check out Brown and Tufts on top of the schools listed above. I also got the sense that Columbia students don’t care that much about sports.

Anyway, there are plenty of schools that could fufill this criteria. Is there anything else you’re looking for in a school (size, location, rural/urban/suburban, alternative vs. mainstream-ness of student body, core vs. distribution requirments or open curriculum, particular major, etc.)?

NYU and BU are typically schools one thinks of when mentioning lack of school spirit.

Caltech and MIT come to mind immediately.

Caltech’s basketball team holds the record for most consecutive losses – a staggering 207 straight losses:

Haha certainly Tufts

see i luv sports, thats why i want to goto a college where the sport are horrible. that way i am sure to get on thier teams lol.

NYU’s bookstore sells “NYU Football” shirts as a joke.

Emerson… no sports to speak of. I will disagree somewhat with Rice - it seems as since their baseball team has done well the past few years, it is more ‘sporty’ than the previous 40 years that I’ve been aware of : )

Fashion Institute of Technology

Brown
i think its harder to find the opposite: a strong acedemic school that really cares about sports

Brandeis should be on this list.

Casewestern

a strong acedemic school that really cares about sports;
stanford, duke, ucla…
