I Hate The ACT

Hey guys,
Im a White Middle class student from an average high school on Long Island.
So Basically I have everything going for me haha.
Your chances and imput would be greatly appreciated guys.

ACT- 29 (Stupid 24 on Science) but 30 Superscored. Do they accept Super?
SAT II-690 US HISTORY
Math I in Dec.

-Toughest Courseload possible.
-8 APs by graduation
-21/262 with a weigted Gpa of 96.7 ( Will go up due to 5 APS in Senior Year.)
-First Generation Student

-Ap Scholar
-Member of the National Society of High School Scholars.
-National Honor Society
-National Spanish Honor Society
-Tri M Music Honor Society
-Club Interact
-Principals Honor Roll
-Wrote the front page article for every issue of My school newspaper.
-English Student of the Year

Those are the generic ECS.
My main passion is music. My schools music program travels around the United States and Internationally every spring and have won nearly every competition.

-1st Alto Sax In Symphonic Band.
-Lead ALTo in HOnors Wind Ensemble
-Lead Alto in Pep Band
-Lead Alto in Jazz Ensemble
-Lead Alto in All District Band
-Lead Alto in PIT Band
-Audtion Pending, but most likely 1st Chair in All County Jazz Ensemble.
-I also have recieved nearly flawless scores on all of my judged nyssma performaces, including a 96 on my All State Jazz peice.

-I also will submit a supplemental CD that I had professionally recorded of me playing my all state Jazz peice.

-I also play piano and guitar privately.
-I have studied under Arlene Szabo for 10 years.
-I also have become a member of the National Piano Guild of America at the National and State Levels.
-I also was asked to submit a recording of my playing for a recital at Carnegie Hall.

-Guitar I have taught Myself, but have achieved relative mastery.

 • I compose and write original music.
 • I also write music for local musicians.

-I am also very involved with the community. In addition to various service projects with Club Interact,Spanish Honor Society, National Honor Society, and the Tri M music Honor Society, I personally run a toy drive for less fortunate children during the holidays. I do this by going around to local orginizations and people and asking for donations.

Lastly I have played Soccer Since Age 4.

I was a starter on JV Soccer in 8th and 9th Grade

3 Year Starter on Varsity

Academic All County

Played for the Division 1 Sachem Golden Eagles

and I played 3 Age groups up on the Division 2 Manorville Vipers.

-So that is basically it. I hope that my passion for music is reiterated througout my application and really serves as a “hook.” My essay really conveys my musical interests and really unifies my application. Im just really worried and hoping that this can make up for my ACT Score.

Think about Test Optional schools like Bates, Bowdoin, Holy Cross, Providence

Your class rank is impressive and your low standardized test score won't hurt you at the above schools.

But what about BC ahaaa

In at BC. I don't see where you have low test scores!

Just what schools do you have in mind? An ACT score of 29-30 puts you in a good range at many fine schools. I have to agree with bonmar, your score is not low! And you definitely don't have to limit yourself to schools that are Test Optional.

No school superscores the ACT.

Im Looking at BC,BU,NYU,Brown, Yale, Princeton, and Duke mostly.
But thanks alot guys. I really like BC, and IM getting worried because a girl at my school last year with a 32 ACT got Waitlisted and eventually Rejected.
So Idk I hope my well roundedness can help me out

Dear ESM402 : I have posted a few times with some observations about the Class of 2011 admission details that were posted on this web site. Honestly, your ACT score of 29 will be low/marginal in the BC pool.

Remember that early applications at BC are up 16% this year which will make both the early and regular decision pool more competitive. (Note that it is also possible that early decision increases at schools like BC and Georgetown are due to the Ivy rejection rate so well publicized last year.) BC had 28,000+ applications for 2,250 incoming freshman slots - expect it to be worst this upcoming year as BC is one of the current "hot" schools.

Yale (1800 per class) and Princeton (1400 per class) will not be reaching down to the 10th percentile in High School graduating class. Brown might be attracted to the Music background, but that is only one application point. BC and Duke will be a huge stretch while BU with a larger class might be possible. If you attend any of these schools (in particular the "Beanpot" schools from BU and BC), be sure to check out their Band/Ensemble performing groups.

As the parent of another Long Island based freshman, I wish you the best of luck in your application process.

Not true. I am aware of several schools that superscore the ACT. I don't recall if BC is one of them though.
