I hate to do this but chance me please for Reed

Reed college has been my dream school since I first started researching it two years ago. I knew even back then that I wanted to be a math major at a small liberal arts college but Reed seems to provide it in a way no other school comes close to. Academically I love the mandatory Humanities Course with its emphasis on reading, discussing in seminars and writing.Having an entire year to focus on the basis of western society which so heavily influences us even today seems like a perfect way to transition into college. Since my interests span so much more than just math I classical education that Reed offers(I.E. the requirement that each student takes two units in each group as a base for B.A.) sounds like so much learning(academic masochism is always appealing) . In terms of the student body I love Reed because of its liberalness(communism, atheism, free love YAY =)), the thirst for knowledge among the students, and the quirkiness people seem to talk about all the time(Renn Fayre and Paideia). And lastly the location. Portland is one of my absolute favorite cities(coffee and vegetarian food everywhere) and Oregon is one of the most naturally beautiful states I have ever visited. There are so many more reasons I love Reed but this isn't my Why Reed essay, its a chances thread so I'll keep it brief. Now that that's out of the way!

I don't know how much this matters but I am a white male from Texas.

Like I said this is my dream college and I know these threads are annoying but if you would please reply it would be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance!

If your application essays are good, I’m sure you’ll be fine.

Your academic profile is quite competitive and you appear to be in love with the school; just make sure your essays convey your passion for and familiarity with Reed, and I think you’ll be fine. Applying ED and being from Texas will also work in your favor.

In short, keep it up  And do mention the Academic Decathlon thing, to explain why you quit show choir if nothing else.

Thanks for the replies. Time to write an awesome Why Reed essay :)

Someone’s getting a nice headstart :stuck_out_tongue: I like your chances; just remember that it’s a unique and quirky character along with an engaging personality that’s important (your numbers ARE fine though).

I didn’t finish my essay till…Oh…November 2nd? Maybe tweaked it until the 11th.

Make sure you don’t wane and show the admissions representatives (who are often Reedies themselves) why you like it so much, and I’d say you have a decent shot  there’s a link somewhere on the college’s site (perhaps an old Quest issue?) that describes the Reed admissions process, including the factors taken into account and how much they matter. If you can find tat, it might provide some additional advice :)
