I hate waiting!

Do any of you have any idea what kind of timeline to expect once the candidate is triple qualified and has a nomination? His nomination showed up on January 18 and he was triple qualified in Oct., I beleive. My son is a much better at being patient than I am. Jake's BGO keeps checking in constantly with Jake to keep him "upbeat" and to see if he has heard anything. Any thoughts?

Think Bob Seeger.........listen to the song: Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then..........that always helps.

I received my nomination in late November and received my appointment in early December. The best thing to do is to try and not think about it. It will happen when you least expect it. Good luck!

Hey, if bob seeger's got the rhythm, so does tom petty (the waiting is the hardest part...) Listen to it really loud, and then go out for a run to realize that nothing you can do right now will help the process. You just have to trust that your son was prepared enough to get in, and let it go until some new info appears.

Also a good waiting tune.....with good waiting lyrics. It is a human condition and this is your season.

It could be anytime up until a few days before reporting day. Most of those who haven't heard yet with hear in late March-early April so put on a pot of coffee and listen to classic rock!

Yeah...i walk past my mailbox in the dorm about 7 or 8 times a day...everytime I glance in there to see if I got anything.

It's a killer.

Boy, I can truly sympathize with your frustration. We were in that same situation a couple of years ago. What type of nomination did your son/daughter receive? Our congressman used the principal nomination system so once that principal nominee was triple qualified, the rest of his nominees had to compete for at-large spots. A lot depends on what system your nominating source utilizes. If you are triple qualified and have a principal nomination or are the top ranking candidate in that congressional area, then you are in. Sometimes down the road, the principal candidate or the top candidate opt to go somewhere else and then the next in line gets the spot. At the end of January when all of the nominations are in, a giant spreadsheet with all of the nominating sources is created with the information on all of the candidates. If for instance a principal or top ranking candidate accepts their appointment, then all of the remaining candidates competing from that district will be put into the at-large pool to compete. It is never over until I-Day as appointees change their minds right up to the last day. In 2004, 9 candidates were brought in AFTER I-Day to fill the class due to no-shows or those that did not qualify, etc. Bottom line, NEVER GIVE UP! This comes from someone who found out in mid-April. Hang in there.

This is the time of year I have to look back and chuckle at the parents on here who were "sweating out" official notification of appointments when their kids had an LOA and nomination in the bag...

Sweating it out with an LOA and a nomination would be a huge waste of energy and time. Seriously, RELAX. If you are uptight now waiting on official word with an LOA and a nomination, the next four years will drive you nuts.

USNAmom, Jake hasn't got an LOA otherwise I totally agree with you. Our congresswoman just gives regular nominations. But I'm pretty sure that there weren't many candidates.

However, there is no way I am going to go out and "run"!!! Exercising is more stressful than any waiting. However, the combination of waiting on USNA and planning our daughter's wedding at the same time is not the most fun. I wish I were more like my husband; out in the garage...

Im in the same boat as OregonMom, I have been triple Q'd since September, a Presidential nom since July, and a Congressional since early December. I wish I had your BGO. I used to shoot him a short email about once every other week just checking in until he told me to basically stop bothering him until I hear something.

Heck of an attitude for a BGO. I know that when we were sweating out this whole thing, my son was in constant contact with his BGO. If nothing else, they know that you are VERY interested in USNA. The one thing that I did for that entire application year was to start a journal. It has been great entertainment to look back and read about the many highs and lows of that year. There is no comparison to the waiting for civilian school acceptances as you pretty much know when they will come. Unfortunately, the news from USNA comes in waves. Some have LOAs, and some hear as soon as they get their nomination. For many others though, it can be well into March and April. Keep sending updates to admissions as those senior awards start to trickle in. You never know what will make a difference. There is no question, this admissions process can be torturous, especially for us anxious parents.

So I was walking into my dorm earlier this afternoon and saw a letter in my mailbox...I think my heart skipped a beat or two...

turns out it was just a stupid resubscription letter for my US News.

This has to be the worst time of the year.

If I recall correctly, the USNA sent out most appointment letters by April 1st, with a deadline of May 1st to accept or decline. Following that, it was dependent on the numbers of "declines" as to how many additional appointment letters were sent. In comparison to USMA and the USMMA, the USNA decision was the last to arrive, and that on 3/31.

OM- this time is very hard, for everyone waiting. It is out of your control, or that of your son, so watching the mailbox is an exercise in futility. I remember this time last year we would not pick up the mail for days at a time- it was just that dissapointing. Focusing on enjoying senior year activities for your son, and wedding plans for you and your daughter, will no doubt help to pass the time, and in a very positive and exciting way.

To everyone who's waiting, hang in there- just a little more to go!

Thank you all, it helps to "vent". Jake will send in his deposit to USD anyway and if he ends up NROTC at San Diego, it will be a great place for us to visit! And Navy2010, I am so happy that Jake is enjoying his senior year. He is having a great year. You are right about everything you said. Thank God that he isn't worrier like his mother.

OM- thank God Jake has the mother he has! ;)

For the sake of input...

I got my 3'qd letter in early Nov. and my MOC nom. in early Dec. I got my appointment on Dec. 28. I was surprised by the speed. Oregonmom, your son sounds like he is in the same category as me, so I'm surprised he hasn't heard anything. Hang in there.
Congrats on USD (I applied there also, haven't heard anything)

Hey, KNovac,

Make sure you update the "Offers of Appointments for 2010" thread. Let us see all your stats/info etc. We want to get to know as many people as possible. Congrats!

OregonMom
You know from other correspondance I've had with you that I'm pulling hard for Jake to be with my daughter there at USNA.

If for some reason circumstances occur and Jake does join the NROTC Unit at USD and you're down my way....remember that I'd love to get to see you
