I got accepted off of the waitlist on June 9, and have until June 12 to accept or decline. I would like to accept, but one of the provisions I had was to no receive any Cs in major prep classes. I got a C in one of them spring semester and notified them on June 9, the day I got accepted. They say the sooner you notify them, the more options I’ll have.
Am I expected to wait the 10-15 days, by which time it is too late to SIR to UCLA, or are they aware that I’ve got only until the 12th? How should I proceed?
The people out here don’t know the rules. What is someone says “wait until you hear back” and they were wrong so your offer expires? You can call ucla and ask what you can do, and if they can extend the SIR date.
Normally a student coming off a waitlist who has already accepted a place at a different UC will accept the new spot and then contact the old UC to say they aren’t coming after all. Some might advise you to accept the spot at ucla and then drag your foot notifying the other UC, well, drag it for at least 10-15 days. It’s a risk, eventually they cross-check and will catch it, maybe before the 15 days are up. I’m not advising you to do this, but if you contact ucla and they say they can’t extend the deadline to submit the SIR then you’ll have to decide what to do.
I hope things work out for you!
Alright, I feel like this might be an issue others experience or will experience in the future, so I’m just going to log my actions and see what happens.
I contacted UCLA admissions today again, and the advisor I spoke with suggested that I SIR to UCLA whilst still SIR’d to UCI (I’m SIR’d to UCI if I didn’t mention that). So I’m SIR’d to two UCs and waiting for UCLA to inform me of any changes to my admission. Hopefully I’ll be told before this becomes a problem.
So June 9 was the day I got accepted, also the day I informed UCLA of my academic changes. I SIR’d to UCLA on June 11. Now I’m waiting.
Got this email today, one week after I emailed them:
“We have received your Academic Changes submitted online. Based on your self-reported information, your eligibility will not be affected by the changes. However, your admission will not be final until official records/transcripts have been received.”
So I guess it’s safe to assume my admission won’t be revoked. Keep in mind my GPA for Spring 2015 was a 2.84, and my total GPA dropped by about 0.06, so I might also say a subpar final semester before transfer is not such a big deal to UCLA. It wasn’t for me.
And thank you mikemac for responding in the first place. Things did work out.
One thing I should note though, is that I reported a C for a third semester of physics, which I thought was considered major prep because of assist.org. However, when I check UCLA’s requirements for my major, it only says “one year of calculus based physics is strongly recommended.” I don’t know if this means a third semester in a course series which is only recommended, is considered major prep or not. I also emailed them about that as well and should hear back soon.
Found the response to my second question in my spam folder, heaven knows why.
They just said to please refer the the initial response. I guess that means “you got in, so don’t worry about it.”
