I have 3C's and 1 D on my transcript...

Race: Asian ( I'm Japanese - American if that makes any difference)
Gender: Male
Expected Major: Music Performance ( I'll have to audition, but you don't have to factor that in If you don't want to)

GPA: 3.61 (UW) 4.71(W)

The thing is I got a C in AP US History both semesters Sophomore year, a C in Japanese, and D in Chemistry 2nd semester. I They were all borderline grades, but I messed up on finals cause my grandmother passed away right before finals, and her funeral was the day before finals.
So chance me? Any suggestions to boost my chances? Comments? Please Help! Thanks!

Grades below a B, will never look good on your transcript regardless. ESPECIALLY for you since you’re Asian, they’re very competitive. I’d suggest you do better on your standardized tests and blow them away on your essays, it’s your only way in, because in the end it doesn’t matter where you went to high school-- it’s what’s on your transcript.

Don’t forget to check out my chance me’s

you definitely show a lot of passion for music through your extracurriculars, and i would definitely emphasize that!

also, if you want to you, you could write an essay explaining the dip in grades, since it is a legitimate reason (not like you just slacked off or something), and that could explain it to adcoms.

overall, i’d say a good chance at each school (except those ivies + stanford… pretty much random for everyone hahah).

good luck!!

Those grades would be a turn off but I advice you to send them a personal sattement about those grades and why they shouldn’t judge you based upon that. I know many people who didnt know much english while taking the SAT’s that did this and they got into the school they wanted to go to. Chnce me back

bump…

Are you from California? Do you know your UC GPA? For UCLA, I would not worry about your race or test scores.

bump…

Realistically no for ivies, you have C’s and a D and you’re an asian male. The others it could probably go either way.

I think the Ivies will think lowly on the C’s and the D, but the with others, UNC, U Miami, UCLA I think you have a good chance. You’re EC’s are EXCELLENT and your passion for music makes your application really stand out.
