I have 57 units only need 3 more! UCSB

k so heres the issue: im going to attempt to apply as a transfer student next month at UCSB for the fall 2013 term. By the end of the spring semester i will have exactly 57 UC transferable units. Will they let me take the extra 3 units during the summer semester at my cc? Is this a lost cause?? please help. Oh and i will be applying for the economics and accouting major.

No, you MUST have 60 units by the end of spring. Can you take a winter class? or add an extra spring class? The UC’s are extremely strict about the unit requirement, anything less than 60 and they will reject you automatically.

Finish 60 by Spring '13. As previously stated, UCs are very strict about this.

you’re at ucsb, which is on the quarter system. unfortunately, this means that you need 90 transferable units, as the lower limit for eligibility is 60 transferable SEMESTER units, which are each worth 1.5 quarter units (60*1.5 = 90) :frowning:
do you have AP credits from high school? because those can help you cross the 90 unit minimum!

hmm ok well id have to take 2 classes during winter semester which would be a total of 6 units and then 5 classes during spring for 15 units. my total combined units would then be 60 but that seems like a lot? what do you guys think? orrrr do any of you know if santa barbara has a spring semester i could apply to? i just really do NOT want to be here for a whole more year ugh

The 60 transferable unit requirement is an ABSOLUTE requirement, as is having completed a UC transferable math course and a year of english comp/critical thinking.

The only UC that allows you to apply for spring enrollment is UC Merced, all the others require you to apply by the November deadline for their only enrollment period of Fall (Berkeley is an exception that admits some applicants to spring, but not at their request).

Yes i know its a must requirement im just wondering if theyd let me complete the 3 units during.the summer as an exception maybe? Instead of waiting another WHOLE year -.-

Anybody have a contact number for ucsb that i couls talk to and ask if theres any kind of exception?

No. Again, you need 60 units. It’s a REQUIREMENT. It isn’t fair to the other applicants who followed all protocol. UCSB is very strict with Math, English, and 60 units. Just get it done.

Ya true… Alrighty then thanks for your help

It does not matter if it seems like a lot. That’s what you’re going to have to do to even be eligible to apply at UCSB. Take the 6 units during winter and 15 during spring. It’s not that hard. I took 15 units during spring 2012, 4 during the summer, and I’m currently taking 18 units. It can be done. If you can’t do it, then say good buy to your chances at UCSB. Man up and do it. Do not wait a whole year for one measly 3 units class! That’s a complete waste of time!

Alright! Thanks for the motivation thats what i needed lol

sorry I misunderstood! I thought you were already at UCSB intending on leaving!!

Whatever you do, make sure you get those other 3 units, take a night class at a different CC, whatever .

UCR let me in with 55( I had work obligations the previous fall that stopped me from getting ANY thing done, and something like 15 CSU only units :frowning: ) and it was an academic nightmare .

Here’s a horrible , but honest thought, have you considered taking an extra year, round out your pre-reqs and transfer in with the max 70 units .

so tell me, how did you get into ucr with only 55? and how did you go about doing this? Im pretty sure i could double up on the units winter semester but itsjust that fear of not doing well or what if they dont even admit me, man that would suck lol

Well, got confirmation from the admissions guy and UCSB doesnt count the summer semster to be completing the minimum bummer! you guys were right ugh guess ill be crackin down these next semesters!

UCR is fairly desperate for transfers since so many people transfer out . Now I had something like 68 CSU units , and 55 UC units- got a no pass in french my spring semester before going to UCR .

In retrospect in would of been better just go to a CSU with 68 units . Going to UCR is one of my biggest regrets, if you don’t have the units , OR most of the pre-reqs, consider taking an extra year .

How I did it, I just asked .

Thisislife-Haha one of my biggest regrets was going to rcc for a year after highschool! You had to fight to Try and get into any class it was pathetic… Thats funny!

Glad i’m not the only person to ever make a mistake ,the moral of the story is ,if a school accepts you in like early march it probably sucks( i’m half serious here, relax) .
UCR has a few defenders that jump up and down for how “underrated” it is, but 90% of people I talked to in person at school picked UCR since it was the only UC they got into .
That , combined with armed robberies on( or near) campus , a crap job market in Riverside( I had a full time job before UCR), and what has to be the nastiest air on earth , makes UCR a crap choice for most.

Anyway, make sure you have your pre-reqs done, at the UC level its VERY hard t o catch up, even if you do have 60 units but your missing something like an IGETC requirement

Dscott, are you finishing the IGETC? I’m sure you could get it done by picking some of the classes that offer more units like Math, Science, Labs and such. I’m taking 13 this semester and 15 next with 3 classes. A lot of info. to take in though hah
