To start off i take zero honors/AP classes just to get that out of the way I need some help will I even be able to go to college at all and what grades would I need to get to get a 3.5 gpa I just feel like my life is over
First off, what grade are you in. You need to specify that before I can give you an answer.
You aren’t doomed. Anyone can go to college if they are determined.
You are presumably a freshman. What’s been going on this year that has affected your grades so badly? Are you making the effort to do your work? Are you ignoring the work, not studying, is there a family issue, do you let your phone distract you, etc…? I suggest you make an appointment with your guidance counselor and ask him or her to help you get back on track. This is exactly why they are there: to guide you.
Please give us some feedback about why your grades a e poor so we can help you figure out your next steps. Without that information, it’s hard to give you advice. Meanwhile, rest assured that you can go to college. Colleges like to see upward trends, and it’s not too late to try and salvage this school year. Community college is always an option too. We need more info about your aspirations and current situation.
Thinking you are putting the cart before the horse: why do you have a 1.3 GPA (which sounds like all 60-something, D+ grades)? what will be different next year that you will be able to get really different grades? That’s the first thing to sort out.
Once you have sorted that part out, there are many paths to get to college. Assuming that 1.3 is your GPA for grade 9, even if you got a 4.0 for grades 10 and 11 the best GPA you can manage is a 3.1 by fall of senior year / college application season. But there are colleges that don’t look at 9th grade marks. There are colleges that are happy to have 2.x GPA students (which is the more likely scenario for you at this point). Starting at a community college and transferring is a good way to overcome a bumpy start.
And, depending on your interests and abilities, there are a lot of great careers for which a license is more relevant than a college degree, including pilot, computer programmer, a bunch of health care technicians (pharmacy, ultrasound, radiology, etc), security manager, etc.
Remember that the key GPA is unweighted, not weighted by honors/AP bumps.
Assuming your a freshman(or even soph.) if you really begin working harder, you will have many schools that want to accept you, even bribing you w/ merit scholarships. And yes, you have heard correctly, many schools do not put emphasis on 9th grade course marks. However, it’s still very fundamental for your Grade Point Avg over the course of 4 years, so that’s limiting you from applying to any somewhat selective schools. But, you are NOT doomed. Just getting into a low-tier college is not that extraordinarily difficult, and you can do well anywhere. It’s not the name that matters, although that may seem cliche. You still have a lot of time to turn things around.
