I have a 2.56 GPA with 80 credits. Should I just give up on Petroleum Engineering?

This is it. This is my turning point. I took a year off because I wanted to join the Air Force but now it's taking too long to get in, so I decided to go back to school. I'm returning to LSU (Louisiana State University) next spring and I am sh*tting myself. I'm scared to death. I'll most likely be taking:

Thermodynamics
Economics
Statics
Petroleum: Rock Properties

Pretty difficult classes if you ask me. From now on, there will only be difficult classes. I have taken all of the basics. I have around 55 credits to complete in order to graduate. The thing that I am worried about is internships and post-graduation where employers would not even take a look at my resume because of a low gpa. Can I bring it up? Realistically? Should I just drop out? I don't have anyone to talk to besides my father who says to not go because I won't be able to do it.

I believe that if you are driven you can do it. There will always be many obstacles in the way and college is a heck of a ride as it is already. I have a couple of friends that graduated from LSU in Petroleum last year and they say themselves the actual petroleum classes are not entirely bad. But as with any class, you just have to put the effort and try. You are already halfway there so go all the way. If you are passionate and driven about it, it will find its way for you. There are plenty of places you can look for internships and jobs.

Based on what you’ve said, my recommendation would be to get and hold a full time job for a least a year. then once you know you can get by without college, go back and finish your degree if that’s still important to you.
