I have a 3.2 non weighted gpa, but have tons of ec's, what are my chances of getting into uc Davis?

The extra curriculars that I have done are high school basketball, tons of dance, teach kids how to dance (cultural dance), volunteer at a vet clinic (shadow a vet and vet techs), key club, and volunteer at my temple, can these help me get in to Davis?

Possible, but still definitely a reach.

GPA is the biggest factor.
What’s your ucgpa?
What’s your sat/act score?
ECs come below that.

ECs won’t make up for lackluster GPA, test scores, LORs and essays.

Only way EC’s will make up for below average GPA and test scores are if you are state or nationally recognized (i.e. state record holder, green carded by national team, if you are a basketball player then a 3,4,5 star prospect on a team competitive in playoffs).

With an average UC GPA of 4.0+, your chances are slim.

Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.00-3.39

UCB/UCLA/UCSD: 1%
UCI/UCSB: 2%
UCD: 4%
UCSC: 18%
UCR: 38%
UCM: 67%

Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.40-3.79:

UCB: 2%
UCLA: 3%
UCSD: 6%
UCD: 15%
UCSB: 14%
UCI: 13%
UCSC: 59%
UCR: 78%
UCM: 92%

As stated above, nationally recognized EC’s/ awards or being a recruited athlete may help your chances but consider it a Reach school.

My Weighted and capped gpa is 3.54

My weighted and capped gpa is 3.54 and weighted gpa is 3.78, does this have any decent chance??

Average UC capped weighted UC GPA for in-coming Freshman was 4.10 not major specific. Below is the 25th-75th percentiles for UC GPA and as you can see you are way below the 25th percentile. What are your test scores?

UCD Freshman Profile 2017::

High School GPA UC capped weighted: 3.95 - 4.25
ACT Composite Score: 26 - 32
ACT English Language Arts : 24 - 30
SAT Evidence Based Reading & Writing: 590 - 680
SAT Mathematics: 600 - 750
SAT Essay: 15-18

Academics (GPA/Test scores) are very important to the UC’s and even though you are very involved in your EC’s, it does not make up for a less than stellar academic record.

Here is what UCD considers during their academic review:

  • Davis
    *
  • Very important: Academic GPA, Application essay, Rigor of secondary school record, Standardized test scores

  • Important: Character/personal qualities, Extracurricular activities, Talent/ability, Volunteer work

  • Considered: First generation college student, Geographical residence, State residency, Work experience

  • Note: Scholastic achievement most important, followed by school and community activities, academic interests, special circumstances, special achievements and awards

If UCD is one of your top schools, then definitely apply but realize it will be a Reach regardless of intended major. You need to find schools where your stats are at the 50th or higher percentile for the best chances at an acceptance.

UCSC/UCR/UCM and many of the Cal States would be good options. Post all your stats and CC posters can give you some ideas for schools that will fit your academics.

Good Luck.

My SAT score is a 1410

Would I have a chance in getting into UC Irvine or riverside?

Riverside, perhaps. UCSC is a possible reach. UC Irvine, I don’t think so.
