I have a 3.5 gpa but I got to a no name school, what are my chances of getting an internship at NVIDIA, Apple, Intel etc.
Define no name
like not that reputed
I go to waynestate
In what I’ve seen, those big companies care less about what school you go to (although going to a prestigious school certainly help) and more about how your doing where you are. Your GPA is pretty good (could be higher), but if your also doing things outside of class (clubs, research), then you probably have a decent chance.
The school you go to shouldn’t hurt you, they might just compare your stats to those of your classmates. I know people who have low gpas but go to really competitive highschools and are hurt by that
well im still in first year, so I can join clubs and research
have you gotten an interview with any of these companies?
or any other big company?
@brajia I am not in highschool, im in university so will it hurt my chances?
I don’t think it should hurt that much it depends on how selective these internships are and other factors they evaluate. Chances are if you get rejected it wont be because of the school you go to
tbh bro, if your GPA is not perfect at a no-name school it would be really hard to get internships at major companies like apple. even with a perfect GPA it will be hard
BUT COMPANIES LIKE APPLE ARENT THE ONLY GOOD PLACES FOR INTERNSHIPS
plenty of other places will be good experience!
Honestly, I think you will be fine. While high school often makes an undergraduate education to be so prominent as to cause tears to the eyes, it truly is no big deal. Try to get a 3.8 or higher and then you will pretty much be good. Show your interests and proficiency in the skills required for the internship through both your academics and extracurricular activities. While if you were up against a Stanford graduate you may not succeed, chances are the college you go to will have a very little impact on the end result. Good luck and get working away towards your goal
Those companies go directly to the universities; they know exactly who they want to recruit and where they want them from. They make appointment schedules at those selective universities and they tell the students exactly what to bring.
In our family, this has been the experience for two of our family members for getting into those companies. There may be other ways that they recruit, but our experience has been that the companies come to you.
Apple hires a lot of engineers from San Jose state university, also a no name stare college. Why? Because they are local school and apple only cares that they graduated with decent gpa from ABET accredited college. You will get training on the job, try hard for internships or coops. Mercedes also hires locally from univ of Alabama. If you are interested in automotive, look into SAE or whatever competitions.
