So I recently applied to PSU-UP and was really confused with the whole alternate campus stuff because I really only wanted to apply to the main campus (I eventually did my research on that one lol). Applying for ChemE, I chose Altoona as the alternate under the assumption that my app would first be reviewed for the main campus. I didn't really feel the need to call (BAD decision) because a cousin of mine who'd applied to PSU-UP helped me, and so I submitted my app.

A few days ago I learned that I'd been accepted to Altoona, however nothing about UP was mentioned. Can I call the Altoona campus on Monday and ask for my application to be sent to the main campus or am I stuck with Altoona? If I'm stuck, I'll have to cross PSU off my list...

@BPearlman97 Did you put UP as your first choice and Altoona as your second choice? If that’s the case, then you were denied admission to main campus and placed at your alternate campus. Check your application review on MyPennState to verify that you didn’t accidentally apply directly to Altoona. If you did apply to UP as first choice and were then sent to Altoona, you can call admissions and ask that your application be reconsidered for a different major (undecided works well) and select the option of starting in the summer. They will then reconsider you for UP…that is, of course, assuming you would be willing to do either. If you did make a mistake and applied to Altoona as first choice, you can also call admissions and ask to be reconsidered for UP. Applications for all campuses are the same.

Engineering at PSU is super competitive. So it is always possible you were denied at main campus for that major. But it’s also possible it was a mistake!

I’ll have to call them up Monday. On my app review it says I chose Altoona as first choice, which is annoying because I reviewed it like 4 times to make sure everything was right…I don’t even remember choosing Berks as 2nd choice. Ugh, UP isn’t even on there.

I figured you’d made a mistake because I thought this might be too early for you to get rejected from UP before priorty application dates have even passed. Just call Monday and see what they say. Def ask about priority dates because your first application made priority deadline, but you will want this “reconsideration” to also be considered a priority application if you can.

Just finished speaking to an admissions officer, my application will be reviewed by UP admissions and I should have a decision in less than a week!
