This brilliant idea of mine might save you anxious penn decision hunters a couple of hours on the day of the decision. Reading through last year’s posts, i learned that on the day that decisions come out, the server to the website is always overloaded, so sometimes it took people a couple hours to actually see their letters. But now…i figured out how to solve all your problems ( i think).

Instead of going to the decision page, why dont we use our username and password to log on to the Student Financial Services Penn Plan. In the letter that came in the mail with out userid and password, it said to keep this letter so we can access this website. There we can see our financial information, so im guessing that if the website comes up with our aid info, WE ARE IN…if not…then we’re not in. I know its not as glorious as seeing the “Congratulations” pop on your screen but its a good way to bypass all the server problems.

What do you guys think? Personally i think its brilliant. hahha

I just tried to do it as well...and obviously it didnt work (i.e incorrect username and password combo). But it makes sense because it means either one of two things:

a. You haven't been accepted and thus the aid info is not up

b. (more likely) they havent posted decisions yet so financial aid is also not up yet.

Like i said, this idea will probably only save you a few minutes or hours, not days (at least i dont think it will save you days)....

They will probably be on the same server...and even if not, people will log in after checking decision to get on to get their financial aid information.

but the ratio of ppl checking financial aid info will be much much smaller than the ratio of ppl checking decisions. Only 30 percent of ed applicants are accepted so those are the only ones checking aid info, and a significant amount of those accepted probably dont even require aid.

i know for rd last year they took down the rest of the website. they might not for ed though becuase there are only 4,000 applicants or so compared to more than four times that for rd.

Why dont you just call the Financial Aid department and ask them if they have made a financial aid package for you.

or

1-866-406-PKEY (1-866-406-7539) - This toll-free number can be used from locations in the U.S. outside the Philadelphia metropolitan area, from Canada, and from the U.S. Virgin Islands.

To confirm your identity, you will be asked to provide:

your Social Security Number or your PennID number (the middle 8-digit sequence of numbers on your PennCard)
your date of birth
a phone number where we can reach you

Now that I think about it...will the server really crash over 4000-5000 extra users? I'm sure they have a top of the line room full of servers in the new Huntsman building.....drool (I'm a tech nerd lol)
