I have a C in Precalculus

Hi guys

I am a junior right now and as the first semester ends I am panicking like ****. Im in California and asian american going to one of the most competitive schools in the bay area. I don't know if this should go in the chance me section either, sorry!

And right now, I have a C in Precalculus.. I have a very hard teacher and I know i can come up with all the excuses I want, but the 4-5 hours of study I put in wasnt enough to absorb all of the material, i have bad memory haha, and math isnt my thing.

So.. will this C ruin me? I dont think it will but my sophmore year i had a 3.8 taking all accel and honors classes (highest possible) and 4.0 weighted. this year im getting a 3.1 uw because of that C and a 3.65 W or something.. really low i know :(

Many of the kids at my school have similar gpa as me but no C's... I am scared out of my mind right now lol and trying to figure out a way to transfer out of the class to the easier teacher and pull off a B...

I am also top 20 in norcal for tennis
100 comm hours,
taking 2 aps and 1 honor this year... all accel\honor sophmore year, taking 2 aps senior year
right now i have a 1750 on SAT :( but i improved from psat of 1490 lol.. im really bad at test taking, the reason why i have a C in precalc is cuz i get a D average on tests.
$xxxx on google adwords\advertising analyst
teach kids tennis voluntarily and as job

thanks guys, take me seriously even though I type like a bum

oh and the colleges I wanted to go to are: UCSD UCB USC UCLA UPenn, NYU, colombia..

That SAT score seems just as problematic for most of the schools you mention as your grades (I'm assuming its 1750/2400). That C is not yet a final grade so maybe it will improve. Get some tutoring, etc. Improve the SAT. Take the ACT. UCs are very numbers-based (see their website for stats for each school). The top 20 tennis thing may give you a little boost if you are being recruited for tennis.

First of all, get some help with the math for the rest of this semester.

Then, work with your guidance counselor to figure out what math class you should be in. Do you need pre-calculus at all? Do you need calculus at all? If you do need them for your ultimate career goals, do you absolultely have to get through them right now, or can they wait until later on in your life? (True story, I got a C in calculus in my freshman year in college, but an A when I re-took it 10 years later as a pre-req. for a graduate school course. Sometimes, you just need to give your brain time to grow up a bit.)

While you are in the counselor's office, have a heart-to-heart about your statement that "im really bad at test taking". There may be something that your school resource team can help you do about it.

Wishing you all the best.
