I have a C

Currently I’m a sophomore and last semester (the fall semester) i got a 79 or a C+ in precalc. This is the only c i’ve ever gotten. This semester (the spring semester), as long as I don’t fail the final, I will end precalc with a 90. I haven’t taken the SAT or ACT yet, since I’m still a sophomore. My grades are okay, I have mostly A’s and some B’s. I also have a lot of extra curricular activities, but I don’t know if this will make a difference. Do you think this C will ruin, or significantly decrease, my chances of getting into a school like UCLA?

Are you sure you school reports every semester to colleges? Only final grades from freshman to junior years are listed on our school’s transcripts. Of course, senior year they get Q1, Q2, and final.

One C will not ruin your life! Actually if you do much better in your junior year (and not getting any more C’s!), then it could substantiate an impressive “improvement” from Sophmore to Junior year which adcoms will consider in their decisions!

One C doesn’t ruin it for you. It might actually end up working in your favor if you work hard to improve your grades. College like to see improvement, and seeing someone with a perfect transcript might be a little boring if they don’t show growth and improvement. Good luck!
