I got into Urbana and I definitely want to attend this school, but I have no free time to visit the school. So if somebody could answer some of these questions I would appreciate it.
1.) What type of food selection do they serve? Do they have many vegetarian options?
2.) Which dorm is better, and most convenient (closer to the school, activities)?
3.) How are the students that attend U of I, are they rude, arrogant, or are they pretty cool?
Thanks for any info you could give me.

I dont go there, but i have visited enough to answer number 3.

I believe UIUC has the largest fraternity and sorority system in the country. That said, you are going to find a lot of frat boys and sorority girls, and all the stereotypes you have heard will be viewable at some point during your attendance.

However, there is enough diversity that if you want to avoid the greek system you wont have a problem doing so. There are plenty of extremely independant and intelligent people on the campus, and even lots of the people involved in the greek system are perfectly friendly people as well. If you are an international student i can understand why you cant visit, but it's an important step in chosing your school, so if you live in the U.S and can visit, i'd suggest it.

Good variety of food including vegtarian( not saying the food is actually good but definitely a lot of variety)

Too general of a question- ISR is the closest. You need to be more specific about whats "better" for you. better yet look at some previous threads regarding housing. they have all the info u need.

Again too general of a question

illini4eva is right, some of your questions need to be a little more specific regarding what you are looking for.

regarding the greek system...krbarrett is right to an extent, however, i feel the post is somewhat misleading. here's my two cents:

Since we do have the largest greek system in the nation, you will find that it is probably the best way to get out into the social scene here in chambana. At the same time, though, you can still have just as much fun, if not more, without going greek. Because we have almost 50+ fraternities and almost 30 sororities, the chances of you finding a house with people whom you get along with and who have common interests are VERY good. I personally have gotten involved in one of the fraternities although I hadn't planned on going greek before I got here. Don't feel like all the frats and sororities are going to be the stereotypical fratty boy and sorority chick. You will see some of that but that is only a part of our enormous greek system. We have fraternities that are strictly engineering students, business students, etc.

With 30K+ students, you can't just give a blanket statement saying that they are arrogant, or all are pretty cool. Its just like anywhere else: there will be people you dislike, people you love; you will meet some of the rudest people here but at the same time you will meet some of the absolutely coolest people here as well. I compare the student body a lot to my high school, except about 15 times larger and with a lot of exchange/international students.

That is all,
Topher

thanks for your input
Hmm let me ask another question which meal plan would you choose, and in regaurds to the housing question I will like it if you would just recommend a house, which one do you reside in, if you are a current student?

My meal plan is the 10 meals/4,500 credits a week. I believe that is what most students get. I have never used up all of my meals/credits in a week's time, but then again, I only eat 2 meals a day usually. You will find yourself ordering food or going to one of the many restaurants on Green St. more often once you start gettin sick of dorm food.

I am a freshman and I live in Scott Hall which is in the Peabody Residence Halls (part of the 6-pack). I love it here and I probably wouldn't want to be anywhere else. The 6-pack is kind of known as the social/party dorms but I'm sure you will find that in any of the halls. I think there are other threads regarding housing so you might wanna check them out.

hey i was jus deciding the housing and UNIT ONE/ALLEN HALL looks pretty good as they have some calculus, economics and international relationships courses which really suits me..was jus wondering how are he chances of getting allen hall.. and how good is allen hall a dormitory to live in(like hows the livin conditions)...ALSO HOWS THE LOCATION OF IT FROM THE ENGINEERING QUAD..are busses easily available from there??...also how r the toilets and bathrooms?? whats the thing about the bathrooms i mean how many ppl share it or do we have a private bathroom...and since i am indian i would like to know what kind of meal options should i take ...i do eat chicken and eggs in non-veg nothin else though...hows the food scene in unit one..
