I have a major problem :(

I took the SAT II’s and got 500 Writing 570 Math. My SAT score is 670 verbal 600 math. All the schools I am applying to don’t require SAT II’s. They include:

Babson
Bentley
Bryant
Northeastern
UMASS Amherst
PC

Will they use my lows SAT II scores against me. Also my rank is like 100/400 my weighted GPA is like an 86. My EC’s are short Martial Arts (Brown Belt) Worked at McDonalds for a year Tennis Team (10,11,12), and book club at school. What do you think are my chances.

Hey there

I have a similar situation to yours where the school I am applying to does not need SAT IIs but I sent them anyway. I got in the 1300s range w my SAT and ACT and my SAT II scores werent that high (670 Writ, 620 his 510 Math IIC) for Vanderbilt...I don't THINK it should hurt too much...they might just benefit people who are borderline if their scores are better...at least I hope so?

So your saying they can only help you not hurt you... I hope thats true.

Also will the fact that I got 2 D's junior year and 1 D senior year hurt me to the point that i won't be admitted. But overall my rank is 100/400, and my weighted GPA is 86

I think D's are pretty seriously detrimental.

How detrimental???

I'm sorry that I don't know the answer to that. I've only heard of 3 schools on your list and I don't know their policies. D's indicate a lack of ability to be successful in a college setting. I fyou got one, that may be explainable. Don't let it discourage you from applying, but if you are a senior do everything to can to avoid that extra D at least.

The 2 classes I got the D's in were Anatomy and Physics both beccause the teacehrs sucked. I am applying to business schools, so i'm guessing they wouldn't mind as much because they are science classes.

Also I have a myriad of C's but they are all in honors classes.

But we get 10 extra points for taking honors classes

Blaming a teacher for a bad grade is not a good argument, blaming several teachers for poor grades brings character into question. Did everybody in these classes get a poor grade? What did you do to improve your grades and why didn't it work? Did you go to summer school? Who will you blame if you flunk out of college? Taking responsibility, over coming adversity, and success are what better schools are looking for and it is what business recruiters will be looking for too.

i'm in the same boat you are.. i recieved three c's in junior year and ranked top 25 percent as well.. im applying to northeastern too- -your sats are good-- do you think there is any possible way to explain those D's- that will hurt you

I hoping they wont have enough time to look at the grades, I hope they just look at GPA and class rank.

Don't Ds count as Fs on college apps?

Oh thanks for the encouragment!!!!

If you are reading this PLEASE I REPEAT PLEASE respond to this I need to know I will end up going to some community college and live a miserable life... Please any kind on input would be nice...

I hate to break it to you.. But you will NOT end up going to some community college and living a miserable life.

Even if all those schools reject you, which hey... 50% chance at each, times that by 6, the chances that you won't at least get in to one of them are small.... there are always State Universities that the deadlines haven't passed for. I'm sure you could get in one of those with those scores.. They're passable for the upper middle of most State Us.

One way or another, your life is not ruined.

Go to The Princeton Review and look at their Counselor-O-Matic program it will give you some information about your chances and options. www.princetonreview.com and www.collegedata.com also offers a search engine. You have to fill in some information but it gives you somethings to think about. Be sure to find out where the colleges send their graduates, good grad schools, great jobs, or to Starbucks. Good Luck.

Princetonreview changed a lot within the past few months. They completely changed the selectivity rankings, so your reported chances are actually lower than what they should be.

For God's sake, they gave UC Irvine a selectivity rating of 98 out of 99. Before the changes, only HYPSMC had those kind of ratings.

Thanks, I hope I can get into at least 3 of them... What do you guys think?
