I have a Majors selecting problem.. "_"

I'm really doubting whether i should put chem engineering as my major.. The more i think about it.. the more im worried.. My personal statements are geared toward chem engineering.. but would it be weird if i chose a more board major like chemistry?? if i do that then my personal statement and my majors won't correlate..
same thing for ucla.

If you don't want to do chemical engineering, I wouldn't put chemical engineering. It's a big commitment and a brutal program.

"Board major"?

No, it wouldn't look too weird. However, why wouldn't you put it? If you wrote your essays about it, why not? Are you afraid it'll hurt your chances? From what I've seen, getting into the college of chemistry isn't that difficult, not nearly as much as CoE.

oo.. i meant broad. "_" hmmm~ firefox why didn't you fix that!!!! :P
hmmm

It's easier to change from chemical engineering to chemistry. It's harder to change from Chemistry to Chemical Engineering.

hmm..yea i know it's difficult to switch into engineering. meh..

So they wouldn't care if my essay was about chem engineering but i select chemistry as my major.

I think they do. Can you rewrite to Chemistry?

First of all, it doesn't matter if you apply as a prospective Chemical Engineering major or not, because once you get in, you can transfer into Chemical Engineering. During your first semester at Berkeley, transferring into the College of Chemistry is 100% guaranteed, so if you get into UC Berkeley, you will get a spot in Chemical engineering if you so desire. However, it's one of the hardest majors on campus, comparable to EECS and other engineering majors. Not many people transfer into this major, because it's quite brutal.

Second, that admission statistics doesn't answer your question directly since Chemistry is both offered in the College of Chemistry and College of Letters and Sciences.

Third, how can you be so sure on Chemical Engineering at this point in your academic career that you have written an essay specifically for it? I'm sure that you can broaden the interest/experience you wrote in your essay to just Chemistry since Chemical Engineering is essentially applied chemistry.

Good luck.

brutal -.-
