I have a question about degrees!!!

Hey im new
so as you can most probably tell from the title, im a little confused about degrees.
I am applying to a lot of UC schools and i know i will get into most of them but you don’t need to worry about that (im a really good student). I want to go to UCSB for CS

my question is that lets say that I go to UCSC for CS, do i get a BA in CS or a masters in CS.

@bilbobaggins2016 which college are you talking about? At first you say UCSB, then you say UCSC.
Also, tone down the arrogance please. UC schools are the best public schools in the nation. Admission is getting competitive. Carry that attitude into your app, you’ll run into some problems.

But generally, Masters are for grad school. If you are applying as a first time freshman, then you get a Bachelor in “xxx”.

Sorry @basedchem I didn’t mean it that way.
I meant that I think i have a pretty good chance at getting into the UC schools im applying to.
And i said UCSC because i have a friend who doesn’t think he can get into a “better UC” ( i say this because personally i think all the UC’s are great!)
so my friend and i are wondering what degrees we get if we are undergrads to UCSB and UCSC for CS.
and thanks for response.
so let me clarify tho

my friend and i go to UCSC and UCSB respectively and we both get Bachelors in CS right? (I thought you could get a masters at all the UCs…is that if you are there for 6 years?)
then we have to option to go to a grad school and get masters (then phd) if we want to…?

@bilbobaggins2016 UCSC offers BA, BS, MA, and other degrees for CS. I don’t know much about the six year Master’s program, but as a 4 year freshman, you get a Bachelor’s in CS.

CS is offered at UCSB’s CoE (very competitive) and gets you a BS in CS.

@basedChem Thanks a lot!
So my friend can get a BS in CS at UCSC, then go to UCB for grad school and get a masters?
I could do the same as well except at UCSB, then to UCB?

@bilbobaggins2016 Yes, presumably.

@basedchem thanks!
can anyone confirm this as well? i want a couple of people (not that i don’t trust @basedchem)

Did your high school not explain associate degrees, bachelors degrees, masters degrees. Ph.D’s? Ask your counselor. You’ve just insulted @basedchem. Why ask if you don’t like the answer?

If you were a really good student, why don’t you know squat about college? Google is available.
Seems kind of late for you to be asking how the levels work.

Google bachelor’s degree.

AA=associate degree-2 years, mostly prep for entering a 4 yr university, but also prepares students for vocational programs.
BA/BS=bachelor of Arts or Science-4 year professional preparation.

MA/MS=master of Arts or Science-two years of specific study plus a thesis.
Requires a test: GRE-graduate record exam, good grades, and applications with essays for admission.
PH.D= requires another application, research, great ECs and a dissertation.

BTW: you are assuming everything is easy. It is not easy and it is expensive.

What are your Stats? UC GPA? SAT/ACT scores? EC’s? These will determine your chances at an acceptance at a UC.

@“aunt bea” and @basedchem Im sorry if i offended you and @auntbea I am a good student, I just didn’t know enough about it. sorry for asking.

@Gumbymom I don’t want to post my stats I don’t want to because I have already talked to my guidance counselor who said as long as I keep my GPA and SAT in the same range and not fail I will get accepted into UCSB.

Many (most) MA/MS degrees can be earned in one year. Particularly if you have an undergraduate degree in the same subject. MBA’s require two years.
