I have a question for Bates' application

in its app., there is an option to let them not to consider my SAT scores. so do I have to fill in my SAT scores in the common app.? or just leave them blank?

If you aren't submitting scores don't write them anywhere.

even if the common app. ask for them?

The common app is used for many schools- most of which require SATs. Bates, however, does not. Therefore, you shouldn't write your scores down there. I'm not 100 percent positive but am pretty sure. Since the submission of scores is optional I don't see why Bates would want you to put the scores in one place. If you submit an official score report from the College Board, you are expected to write down your scores on the common app. I think the specific Bates application has a check box which asks you to check consider or don't consider scores. also But, you can call the school just to be sure. Are you male or female. I'm a white male and am wondering if not submitting is looked upon more poorly for white males since the majority of non-submitters are females, minorities, and athletes. Bates, supposedly, places less emphasis on SATs even if you do submit, so I'm hoping for the best. Do you by any chance know how this works. I am a strong student and was deferred from Bowdoin and I think I may have been hurt for not submitting SATs. Good luck and what other schools are you applying to?

Yeah, I think I have to call them just to be sure because I don't really want my SAT scores show up. Anyways, I'm a male, who just came to the US 7 yrs ago. I, personally don't know any more than you do about Bates handle the SAT scores. However, their statitic shows that non-submitters just do the same as the ones submitted. If you did well on the SATs, then I don't know how it will hurt you if you submit them. Through your writings, I know you're a very strong candidate if you apply to Bates. By the way, I'm currently applying to University of Florida, University of New Hampshire, Clark U., Univ. of Rhode Island (I live in this state so it's not hurt to have this as my safety school), and maybe Boston U. How about you?

I think since your not submitting it's good that you are not a native to the U.S. I'm nervous that since I'm a native to the U.S. and a white male that it will hurt not to submit. I think the majority of people who don't submit fall into different categories. I'm just not a great testaker. I was reassured by Bates' statistics about people who do and do not submit, but still hope that Bates is true to their word. I was deferred from Bowdoin who is also SAT optional- but I think Bowdoin is a little more competitve than Bates. I'm applying to Connecticut College, Brandeis, Colby, Muhlenberg, Wheaton, and Franklin and Marshall. Most of these are matches or safeties, maybe not Colby, but still have pretty low acceptance rates. Also, when you call Bates and find out the answer to the SAT question I'd greatly appreciate it if you told me what they said. Best of luck with Bates and everywhere else!

Wow there are a lot of colleges you're applying for. I'm planning to apply as many as I can too but I hate writing essays for them. It always takes me quite an amount of time to write a good essay. Anyways, I'll tell you what Bates say about the SAT thing on Monday.

I know- writing essays is quite time consuming. I've just finished all of them and it has taken me months! I applied to so many schools because I hoped to increase my chances of getting into at least one very good school.

I called them today and they said, "no, you don't have to."
