I have a question regarding transferring into Cal from a 4yr

I currently attend Cal Poly: SLO for Industrial Engineering, and for personal reasons I would like to transfer to Cal for...Industrial Engineering.

I'm wondering how much of the application depends on GPA versus EC for transfer students, and how much of a priority do they place on getting JC students first?

Thank you.

The top three things for transfers: 1) Make sure you meet all the required lower division courses and GE requirements 2) GPA 3) GPA. That’s it…

^ That may be true for community college transfers. I think it involves a little more for CSU and other 4-year university transfers. Since transfer spaces are primarily reserved for CC transfers, IMO, you need to have a compelling reason for transfer that is expressed in your essay. It also helps to apply to a major that is not that popular.

Good luck.

How high is the GPA requirement for engineering, I hear its a lil lower than their average 3.6-3.8, but how high would it be?

I’m calling the admissions office for further information

And Berkeley was my first choice, but I was pushed into accepting Cal Poly once I got the boot from Berkeley…I wish I stood up to my parents and went to a JC instead…but what is done is done.

I got in Chemical Engineering with a 3.6…but that was a while ago. I think the official cut-off is 3.0, but you’ll need way better than that.

UC Statfinder, [University of California: StatFinder](http://statfinder.ucop.edu/statfinder), says the average admit GPA for 2007 into the College of Enginering from all other colleges was 3.83. (The average applicant GPA was 3.45 and the average enrollee GPA was 3.78)
