I...have a question.

Hey guys,

So this is mainly to past students/current upperclassmen at Cornell. How hard is it to do a dual degree between CAS and Engineering? I have a decent amount of credits and taking a light load first semester because I'm not sure what to take past what's required. I am extremely upset with the requirements they make you fulfill to major between different colleges. I'm either considering switching out of engineering to CAS or --more likely-- just transferring out to another college where it is much less annoying to double major across colleges and where they have an actual applied math major. Also, it's quite unfortunate how some classes are just available to AEM students...

Thanks,
Wong

Sounds like you might belong in CAS in the College Scholar program. I don’t know much about it since I didn’t do it, but they basically let you design your own curriculum, with the approval of an advisor and I think you have to do a thesis your senior year. I know a few people who did it and they loved it. I think you have to apply your freshman year, so if you’re not in CAS already, you’ll probably want to get on that right away. This option will probably only work if most of the classes you want to take are at least cross-listed in CAS.

I am a parent, but take a look at the language requirements in CAS. That might be tough to manage with the engineering with the labs and longer classes. Have you spoken to your advisor and worked out a plan?
