<p>95% of the time, completely untrue. Only time where it doesnt matter is for some state schools. You can get into plenty of schools with just college prep or a few honors classes though.</p>
<p>I would surmise colleges not only use AP tests as a supplemental form of standardized testing (to the SAT, ACT, SATIIs, etc) but also as a way to gauge how competitive, etc. your high school is (comparing your grades in the classes vs. your AP scores)</p>
<p>it seems like an AP class would show how more prepared you were for college, rather than how well you could do in a college-prep level HS class. i dont honestly know what colleges think though.</p>
<p>Taking AP classes is important for college admissions. AP test scores are not. If they were, schools would specifically ask for them on the applications; they don't. </p>
<p>SAT IIs, on the other hand, are often required or highly recommended in the admissions process itself. If so, you need to take them, and you cannot substitute AP scores for those tests.</p>
