Are there a lot of people who do internal transfer from CALS to Engineering?

I realize CALS is less rigorous to get admitted to than Engineering.

Is it a bad idea to apply to CALS with early decision and later on transfer to Engineering?

it’s possible if you have a stellar gpa…

Why would you apply to CALS if you are interested in engineering? For anything other than biological engineering, that doesn’t make any sense. It would be like applying to AAP when you are interested in chemistry.

Only apply to CALS if you are planning on doing BEE… I imagine it is pretty easy to pick out students who applied to an easy program to transfer into another, especially if you try to switch right after the first semester. Also, you have a better chance of getting into Cornell in general if you apply to the program you are most interested in. You will be able to write a much more convincing short essay on why you picked that college/major.

Engineering and hotel (for general discussion sake) both have strict requirements that most people take the full 4 years to complete. I would not want to get behind in these, especially since the engineering classes are so difficult, because you will struggle to make them up and may have to stay an extra summer/semester/year at up to $40k+. Apply to engineering if you are interested in it, and you can fill out an application for a second choice major as well if you have another that you are equally interested in.

Thank you for the replies.
