Is a person considered first generation if they are the first generation to go to college in the United States? My parents have gone to college in India but my brother and I are the first to go to college here. does that count as first generation?

i don’t think that counts.

No that’s not first gen …

yeahh i thought so

hmmm…i think you could say first generation in US?

haha possibly. some of my college counselors told me that it counted since they did not go to school here but i thought they were wrong. they are pretty ignorant anyways haha

I feel your pain my high school counselor was awful. After a while I stopped asking her questions and would just look it up myself.

well if you’re going to try to go that route anyway, don’t apply for financial aid. the last thing you want to show is that your uneducated parents are working as doctors haha

haha i definitely need financial aid. i dont plan on using that i was just wondering if it counted i was already pretty sure it didn’t.

i’m sure they’ll figure it out because when you fill out the information for your parents it asks what college they went to and stuff, so i’m sure they’ll see that your 1stgen in US! It’s the same situation for me, btw! haha

haha yeahh. it isnt really a big deal i mean college is college it doesnt matter what country but i was wondering if it would help me a bit haha

hmm i’m curious to know as well! i hope it helps! XD

haha yeahh!
