i have a small q..and would really appreciate ur help!

I know that this may be a little bit off topic, however I'm thinking about possible majors and I was really considering film studies as I would like to become a director/producer or something of that sort. I would just like to know if any of you know anything about how that major really is; what are its requirements and information of that sort…. also, I cant find a place that shows the top colleges in this major...does any one have any suggestions? And lastly is the Tisch school of the arts only graduate studies, or is it undergrad ? and if it is undergrad I really don't understand how admissions to it work, do you apply to Tisch directly or to nyu or what exactly and does one declare a major right away or what?
thanks a lot for your time

elodie, Many colleges and universities now offer film studies majors. A good place to start for suggestions would be to read through the thread on this board (from a couple of days ago) titled "What do you do if child student says he wants to major in 'FILM'. " If you still have questions, I'd suggest that you post on that thread.

I know someone majoring at Boston University in film. It is in the College of Communication. (Which is good, if you want to double major.)

http://www.bu.edu/com/ft/film/index.html

Syracuse U has a great school of Communications, the SI NewHouse School of Public Communications. It is very selective. I don't know about Film Studies there, though. Another college to consider is NorthWestern's school of communications. Again, very selective.

This is a cross-post that I posted in the "FILM" thread:

From the way you describe your interests, you should definitely look at Ohio University's incredible School of Telecommunication at: http://www.tcomschool.ohiou.edu/

It has tracks in Music Production, Media Production, Audio Post Production, Management, Media Studies, Electronic Media Technologies, International Communications, Media and Society, Politics and Media, and Individualized Concentrations in Management, Multimedia, and Video Production.

What more could you want, and there are opportunities for working with OU's Scripps School of Journalism as well.

It's also a big enough school to offer all the usual majors in case you change your mind, it's a beautiful campus (feels like a private school), is very affordable (compared to most private or out-of-state publics), is rated in USN&WR's top 100, and offers decent merit scholarships if your stats are high. Plus it has rolling admissions so you can know soon after you apply that you're acceepted.

Take a look.

Elodie, I don't know about the film major, but in general Tisch offers undergraduate programs and it operates as a separate school within NYU -- if you want to go to Tisch, you apply specifically there and meet whatever audition/portfolio requirements are set for your major. The majority of courses at Tisch are not open to students at other NYU colleges; additionally, the Tisch programs are very intensive and leave little room or flexibility as to courses taken from the other NYU colleges -- so, for example, it would be difficult to have a double major or cross-disciplinary major.
