<p>I doubt that it will have a big impact, especially if there is a good explanation. I recently met two siblings that are students at U. of Pennsylvania whose (well off) parents took them out of school while in their teens to travel the world. The gap year did not prevent them from getting into an Ivy League school. </p>
<p>Whatever your reason, don’t obsess about it. It is in the past and cannot be changed. Focus your energies on what you can do to make yourself more attractive to the colleges you are interested in. Good luck!</p>
