I have absolutely no idea where to apply.

Alright first I'll start by saying that I live in Texas and my parents will not be helping me through college financially.

I'm starting college in the Fall of 2011 and so I've been starting my application process. I'd like to go into engineering and so far I've only looked at local schools, yet I'd like to apply to some up north in the off chance that I get a good amount of money to help me through school. My scores:

SAT: 2010
SAT (out of 1600): 1330
ACT: 32
GPA: 3.45 (out of 4.0)
Class Rank: 57/442

Could anyone help suggest some schools that I might be able to get into that I could possibly get a nice amount of money from? Also, I really don't do much outside of school when it comes to community service or work. I just got out of the band program and I really didn't have time for it before this year, and now I'm applying for schools and working on an independent studies project.

What you need to tell us is whether you are looking for need based or merit aid. Your parents’ income and assets determine whether you qualify for need based aid whether they plan to contribute or not. If they have no money to contribute (low income, don’t own house) you could qualify for need based aid. If they have a good income and assets you need merit aid.

For schools offering good need based aid use search to find the list of colleges that meet 100% of need. For good merit aid schools go to the financial aid board and look at the threads on top.

It would have to be merit aid. My parents make quite a bit, they just are choosing not to help because they fell I’ll value the education more if I pay for it myself.
