So far I have been accepted into 3 calstates (CSULong beach, CSUNorthridge,& CSUFullerton)and 2 UC's (UC Riverside and Irvine and I still await decisions from Santa Barbara and UCLA). So CSULB has a great art program-something i may be interested in, but its very close to home and I would like to get away. My first problem is, I donnot know much about CalState Northridge or Fullerton. Secondly, am kind of leaning toward a UC because of prestige, I've been at the top of my class through highschool and kind of feel as though Im..."above" going to a CalState-Im slightly aware of how this may sound ridiculous. What do you think about any of this? any suggestion about any of these schools or aboout my problem will help. (Also Im not really interested in attending a major research university, Im more interested in the arts-all forms from visual, to communication, english, dance, liberal arts, etc-NOT planning to enter into a science or math field )

I’d say that CSULB is more prestigious than UCR by a fair bit at this point in time, CSULB is only accepting about 7-8% of applicants this year. I’ve heard people talk down on CSUN though. CSUF trades blows with CSULB in a lot of cases but it really depends on the major.

Helpful. Thanks. But as far as CSUN goes, what kind of negativity have you heard, if you dont mind me asking.

that it’s a very easy and somewhat under-performing school in general. I’m not an expert at all though, so don’t give my advice TOO much credence.

just give this a look over
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/transfer-students/603209-rankings-cal-state-cal-poly-campuses.html

that said, THERE IS MORE TO YOUR CHOICE THAN JUST RANKING. Money matters, your personal enjoyment matters. And most work places care more about your work experience than WHERE you got your degree or what it is(as long as the degree is relevant. EG my step brother who was an SEO at a mid sized construction company said he wouldn’t discriminate against an econ major vs. a biz-econ major vs a biz admin major in most cases)

take it all with a grain of salt. Also remember that CSULbB will probably be shooting up a bit more in the near future as it’s MUCH more competitive than before(this will likely also mean harder classes, just a fair warning), they’re only accepting 7-8% of applicants this year. Also know that this will make CSUFullerton the premier second choice in the OC/LA area… which likely means HUGE impaction at Fullerton next year(just a guess but I’m thinking I’ll be right) CSULB’s admission antics are the main reason I’ve opted to go to UC Irvine(which I was also accepted to) over CSULB and CSUF. I want to graduate on time.

for the record I’m an OC kid and I DON’T want to move. my dad’s paying for most of my college expenses but I have to pay for living expenses. I’m riding the subsidized/reduced rent train as long as I can. I work long and hard enough as it is, i don’t need more. Remember living at home and commuting means you can work less, get higher grades/do more internships and then look more competitive in the future for grad school/getting a real job.

ranking your schools by overall prestige(and not necessarily how well you fit)UCLA, UCSB/UCI(tie), CSULB, CSUF, UCR, CSUN. I’m not sure if UCR should be higher or not, I haven’t looked into them much, they’re probably about on par with CSUF and maybe CSULB but I don’t know. That said UCR has better national and international recognition, the UCs are hot **** in the world of education while the CSUs aren’t. the best CSU isn’t necessarily as good as the worst CSU in someone’s eyes if they arne’t well versed(I’d personally consider CSULB a better school than UCR, but it’s not MY opinion which counts, it’s an employers)

also remember arts are a wild card. UCI outdoes berkely in arts I’ve heard. RESEARCH, check elsewhere on this site. I’m a business/science guy so my advice isn’t 100% relevant to arts.

UCR is excellent school. It obviously beats all cal state schools if you’ve done your research. if your looking for a research university UC’s school. sorry Calstates. FOr arts UCR is the school to pick it has a rich art program it even has two famous museums. Especially with its diversity its Art- all forms programs are highly prestigious. Consider UCR
