How can I get rid of that F? Do I have to retake that exact class? I already took summer school and got a B-. Should I still retake the class?

At my S’s HS, a student can retake a class that s/he got a D or F in, and if the student receives a C or better, the new grade replaces the original, with one caveat: the new grade is averaged into the GPA and the credits for the old grade are zeroed out, BUT-- the original grade (D or F) remains on the transcript.

This happened to my son-- he got a D in 9th grade English (bad teacher, long story), took the course again in summer school (at a different school), and got an A. So, the credits for the D will be zeroed out, and the A will be calculated into his GPA. However, the D itself will remain on his transcript.

YES-- absolutely retake the class!! Good luck.

Thank you!
