I recieved an LOA early in the Fall. Just a few days ago, a nomination from my congressman came through on the West Point Candidate website.

I was wondering then:
How long should it be before I recieve an appointment from West Point? (Everything else is good to go. I was qualified by DoDMERB and my file is complete.)

Just out of curiousity bd0251 what were you SAT scores grades and E.C's. Just wondering becuase I want to see what type of canidates recieve the early LOA's. As far as your appointment. I know someone who recently got an appointment and it was a week after their nomination. Hope it helps Thanks

In my son's case it was about 2 weeks between the nomination being listed on the website and when the appointment arrived in the mail.
Congratulations!

For me it took a month just because of the holidays, so hopefully it will go faster for you!

My stats weren't that stellar and I got an LOA. If youw ant an LOA, don't follow their advice about not doing some stuff to be more passionate about other stuff. All you have to do if figure out how the system works and play it. The entire thing is based on an objective score. You get points for clubs, student government positions, varsity letters, Eagle Scout, GPA, class rank, SAT IIs, and countless other stuff. When you fill out the SLS application, memorize the fields where you can put down what you do, it is basically identical to the real application. Do everything you possibly can that will fill in those fields and eventually you will recieve enough points. The entire process is completely objective, so just do as much as you can. SATs are very very important.

"All you have to do if figure out how the system works and play it."

Truly the greatest advice. Potential candidates should educate yourselves on everything about wp and the academies. There is no one thing for everyone that will get them in. Remember that it is a points system. I did debate team for half a semester and received points as a "Debate Team Member". I did math team for four years and got no points. Know what they are looking for by checking their class profile.

My stats that got an August loa and a November Appt. are very similar to mb's

Do different activities get more points? For instance, I am the class president at my school, would that give me more 'points' then being a memeber of a random club?
