I recently graduated with an A.A.S. (3.366 GPA, unrelated major). I plan on transferring to a four-year for computer science. I will be taking a year worth of classes (summer/winter included) to make the transition as smooth as possible.

However, those classes will not be enough to obtain an A.S. degree. (which will ensure transfer of at least 60 credits, but I already checked each course and the ones I want to transfer, will transfer.)

Is it worth the trouble (as in, does it increase chance of acceptance), if I complete the A.S degree before applying to transfer? I will have to take fluff classes like gym, health education, etc...Not many, maybe 3-5 extra classes. However I will have a full schedule with more than 12 credits per semester already, and I will need to aim for an A in each course.

Or I can just stick to my plan and take the classes my target school wants and transfer without the A.S.

Also, I attended one college before the one I am at now. It was my first college experience and I was unprepared which lead to an abysmal transcript (W/WU's/F's). How much will that affect the transfer decision if I have an upward trend and a new year full of A's?

Thanks for anyone taking the time to answer.
