I live in NY and i was attending to BMCC, due to personal problems i wasn't doing right in my classes..so yeah..i was dismissed academically & in the letter they sent me said that is better if i let pass 1 semester so i did and i let it pass 2 semesters, cause i was working, but now i want to go back but not to BMCC, i want to apply for a 4 year college..!
I am sure that i will doing better, i am not a bad student..but i need someone to guide me.
Because i do not know if i have to apply again to CUNY or directly to college.
Or Do i need to tell the college that i was dismissed academically or Can i apply as a freshman.?
Besides lets say i dont have credits..just 1, i think! :(
Please answer me, cause i really need someone to guide me.

You need to include your previous academic record and then try to explain it. It is much worse to have them discover that you omitted information about a previous college enrollment.

So you think is better if i call and explain the problem?
You do not know if i need to apply directly to college or cuny first? Thanks!

The problem is, the school that you’re applying to will want to have evidence (ie. good grades) that you will do better. If you were academically dismissed from your CC, it will be difficult to transfer immediately to a 4 yr college.

Whenever you apply to a college, you must send transcripts for any previous college work and you must answer a question about disciplinary action (see the Common Application for an example).

How can you have just 1 credit? You need to count not just the classes you passed, but also the ones where you received a non-passing grade or a W.

Some colleges consider you a transfer applicant if you have had 1 post-HS college class, others permit more college coursework, you need to go to the college websites to see their definitions of fr and transfer applicants. But again, how many semesters did you attend and how many units did you take?

2 semesters. & now that u said is TRUE better starting slow in a 2 years college.! Do you think I need to apply to the CUNY.? Thank You.

You should take courses at a community college, and earn a transferrable associate’s degree before you apply to a university. Earning good grades in college level courses will demonstrate that you are ready to handle a rigorous course load.

The secret that you aren’t told as a high school senior, is that everyone (unless they have recieved college credit via AP exam scores, CLEP, IB, or duel credit [technically]) must take a set of general undergraduate course (Two English courses, lab sciences, math, computer courses, foreign languages, humanities, social sciences, communication, PE, etc.) in conjunction with the courses for your major. It is cheaper to do so at a community college. When you transfer, you will do so with Junior class standing, and you will have proven that you have the determination to finish a course of study.

I would also recommend taking a college study skills course. It seems silly, but it can be quite helpful. You need to determine why you did not do well at the university that you attended, so that you truly understand how to ensure your success in the future.

I was Academically dismissed from UT-Austin after two semesters, graduated with an Associate of the Arts in Education, and am transferring to a university for the fall of 2012.

Even if you do not have transferrable credit (C’s or better), you are a transfer student because you took college courses after high school.
