<p>I spent my first year at Rensselaer and got dismissed for academic reasons. Now i'm enrolled in a local community college, trying to regain my focus and explore what i want to do.
The question is this. Which would be a better choice? Going back to my home institute or transfer to another school?
Will other schools even accept a student with a dismissed status?</p>

<p>Yes, other schools will accept a student with a dismissal on their academic records. Not every school, but many. Many schools only want “good academic standing” at the <em>last</em> school you attended. If you do fine at the CC, then you have that standing. Simply look for that particular verbiage when making a list of colleges for transfer.</p>
<p>Which school to go back to is a matter of need and choice. You would need to outline the pros and cons to get any realistic feedback.</p>
