I spent my first year at Rensselaer and got dismissed for academic reasons. Now i'm enrolled in a local community college, trying to regain my focus and explore what i want to do.
The question is this. Which would be a better choice? Going back to my home institute or transfer to another school?
Will other schools even accept a student with a dismissed status?

Yes, other schools will accept a student with a dismissal on their academic records. Not every school, but many. Many schools only want “good academic standing” at the last school you attended. If you do fine at the CC, then you have that standing. Simply look for that particular verbiage when making a list of colleges for transfer.

Which school to go back to is a matter of need and choice. You would need to outline the pros and cons to get any realistic feedback.
