Okay, so I recently recieved this email, is this a bad thing.

You have been selected for a process called verification by the Department of Education. Please submit the attached verification worksheet along with signed copies of your and your parents 2008 taxes including all schedules and W-2's** Federal funds may not disburse to your Bursar's Account until verification has been completed and the Office of College Aid will not waive any late fees associated with failure to submit the appropriate verification documents. Please mail or fax your information as soon as possible.

IF YOU HAVE ALREADY SUBMITTED A COPY OF YOUR TAXES, YOU DO NOT NEED TO FORWARD ANOTHER COPY

My son goes to university of chicago and I remember having to send in all tax returns. I don’t think it is anything unusual, but call them if you have any questions. They are very nice and extremely helpful.

No, I had to do this for some other colleges. I think it’s required by the gov’t, randomly picking applicants to verify their tax information. Just to double check. Not to worry.

uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuur goin’ to jail

No, this is not a bad thing, and has nothing to do with you in particular. Each year, the Department of Education randomly selects some of its FAFSA applicants to undergo verification. I believe it is used as an accountability tool, to examine from a random sampling how accurate and honest applicants are being about their financial situation. Remember that you didn’t have to submit any official documents to the federal government when first filing your FAFSA.

I have also been chosen for verification.

The slammer for sure. Start thinking about your gang affiliation.

I’ve been selected for verification too. But it doesn’t make sense that I have to fill out the form when I’ve already sent in my parent’s 2008 tax statements.

Same here…the way our government works…
