SAT Score:
2080 total
Reading: 710
Math: 660
Writing: 710

My GPA is around a 3.4 maybe 3.5, but i have a fairly hard course load (Mostly IB classes though, rather than AP)
Senior Year:
AP English - fairly hard
IB Topics (20th century world history) - second year after HoA, hard
IB ITGS (Informational Tech in a Global Society) - not that hard
IB Environmental Systems - not too hard
Precalculus - easy
Sociology - easy

Junior year:
IB Computer Science 2 - Not too "hard" but a huge amount of work (5 on exam)
Math Analysis/trig - fairly easy
Normal English - complete BS class
IB Physics - hard (6 on exam)
IB History of the Americas - First year of 2 year IB class, very easy
IB Economics - not too hard
Decently hard classes fresh/soph years as well

The schools i'm looking at:
James Madison
Virginia Tech
Maryland - college park
George Washington U
Big reaches - Michigan, UNC, UVA I would really like other recomendations

I'm looking to major in political science and there's a decent chance i will be an eagle scout. Other than that, i have nothing as far as extra curriculars or sports.

i don’t think mich/unc/uva are big reaches…rather they are high matches even if you’re oos because your sats are solid. your GPAs are on the weak side, so i suggest rasing your sats a bit

Thanks. Anybody know how much being a Life scout will help with college? I have been leadership in the troop and all that, but theres a good chance i wont get eagle final before i apply.

The things is althoug EC’s, recs, essays, and etc matter, the MAJOR factors are GPA and SAT’s…just think about it:
A has a 30 act and 3.8 gpa. A did normal EC’s(volunteer work and such)
B has a 28 act and 3.5 gpa. B did more volunteer work and was in Life Scout.
Who do you think will be chosen. No doubt it will be A. Just as scores of 33 and 34 doesn’t make much difference, being involved in a couple more EC’s won’t change your chances. Remeber the big two: GPA and Test Scores

A friend of mine got into duke this past year, and he was a life scout still completing his eagle project. Maybe you should implement that into your essays, explaining your project or the leadership skills you developed through scouting. BTW, I just recieved me Eagle three weeks ago, and i think it puts me above others who dont have it, but it can’t compensate for grades. And unfortunately i’m an ABC student and have earned a C every year of high school thus far…If i could go back in time i would.
