I have mono :(...when should I return to school?

About a week ago I got hit by a wall of terribleness while up at college. I toughed it through my classes and felt like I was going to die when finally the weekend came. My mom came up and took me to MedExpress to see what was wrong. They did a mono test and it came back positive... They gave me a prescription for prednisone to help with the terrible throat swelling and told me to get some rest. My problem is that I'm taking 18 credits, I'm an RA, and I don't want to miss too many days! I'm terrified to get caught behind in my work... I don't feel too bad besides the pain from eating/drinking because of my swollen throat, though the prednisone has really helped with the swelling. Can going back too soon have long-lasting repercussions? I plan on taking it easy when I go back and only doing the essentials like getting to class (thankfully my campus is really small), eating, and sleeping. Any advice? Thank you in advance!

Google is amazing

I just had mono this summer and it flared up some other chronic illness symptoms that I have. It was, of course, during the week before a major corporate visit at my store (I was a department sales leader at the time). I worked a few hours per day despite the pain because I would have had my butt chewed out otherwise if my department wasn’t perfect. It was not the best decision due to the physical labor, but I survived.

The main problem is to worry about a swollen spleen and carrying/lifting/pushing around anything heavy (such as a school bag). I never had the swollen spleen, so I was lucky. It IS contagious for a few months even after symptoms go away, so don’t be sharing utensils/cups/kisses with anyone  Unfortunately, it can also become active later on without any symptoms and be contagious then, too. But the older you get the less likely we are to show signs of mono.

I think taking a few days of rest will do you good, then go back to class. The prednisone will do wonders for the pain. I also took Tylenol Extra Strength for body aches. But I wasn’t able to distinguish what was from the mono and what was from the chronic illness, so you’re probably in better shape than I was.
